  • Too Expensive

Introduction

Thanks again to International Protein for hooking up the TROOPs and participating here on SR. This was my fourth product of theirs (third protein). Being I have had their Iso-cuts and Amino-charged WPI, so in my conclusion I will offer my opinion on which I would be more likely to buy again. So, what did Superior Whey have to offer?..

Ingredient Profile

WIth this being a protein supplement, sometimes our eyes go right towards that on the nutrition label, so lets check that and the macros out first.
P - 31g
C - 3g
F - 3g

Simple macros, just over 30g of protein per serving. Personally I try and hover around the 30g range for a shake (at least 28+ for a serving). Along with the macros, we have plethora of aminos. To touch on a few, L-Isoleucine 1736mg, L-Leucine 3296mg, and L-Valine 1786mg. These are the aminos you find in your basic 3:1:1 for amino products. These will aid in recovery.

Taste/Mixability/Dosing

Taste: I received the strawberry flavor. Not terrible, but definitely the least exciting strawberry protein I've ever ingested. It was light, but even in less water, the flavor wasn't there. Also had a few pink/red pieces floating in it.

Mixability: Mixed well in a blender bottle. Slight foaming, even if you let it sit.

Dosing: This was dosed at 1 scoop post-workout in water. Maybe it would have tasted better in milk, but I don't drink milk.

Effectiveness

Proteins, the hardest effectiveness to judge. Did I receive the protein I desired post-workout? Yes. Did I have any digestive issues while taking this product? No. Were the ingredients macro friendly and not crazy prop blends? Yes.

I take protein to aid my muscles in recovery and growth. It is not solely done with a supplemental product, but simply used to aid in the process. Superior whey aided me in reaching what I was aiming for.

Value

This is where International protein takes a steep dive with all of their products. Currently, this 2lb bag can be found online for $52 on Amazon (free shipping if you have Prime). This was the cheapest I found it, which makes me veer away from it.

Side Effects

No side effects to note.

Conclusion

Alright. Overall, not a bad ingredient profile. However, the taste and price make me not want give Superior Whey a second chance. I did mention above I have tried three of their whey products though, all reviews are available on my profile. My top pick, if I were to purchase one, would be the WPI Whey. For some reason, this one is MUCH cheaper online I have found. It comes loaded with aminos too, which help you recover. I feel you get the most bang with you buck with this protein, which is why I would give WPI a purchase. Prices fluctuate online, yes, but it is currently $35 on amazon with FREE SHIPPING! If you want to try any of their proteins, I highly suggest this is the one you shoot for!

 Pros:
 Cons:
  • Builds Muscle
  • Increase Recovery
  • WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!!

Introduction

How's it going SR!!! I want to thank International Protein and the Trooper program for the opportunity to try Superior Whey. A good source of protein is important for muscle growth and recovery and many other benefits. While food is always a great alternative so of us are just flat out busy or sometimes we don't even have an appetite and that is where a protein supplement shines! I saw this posted on the SR Troop Board and just had to give it a shot!

Ingredient Profile

A pretty straight forward label... 160 Calories which is not bad at all. Not to much and not to little.
3 grams of Carbs
2 grams of sugar
A CRAZY 31g of protein per serving!
5 grams of L-Glutamine to help with recovery which I find that they hit the spot with this dosage.

Taste/Mixability/Dosing

Taste- Absolutely amazing. Very smooth when mixed with both milk and water. Never had issues with the flavor. I had vanilla and it tasted exactly like vanilla without it being overly sweet etc. NO after taste.

Mixability - I always used a blender and found that it mixed perfectly. A little bit of foam but nothing overbearing. Just blend it for 30 seconds or so and voila. A perfect shake with no clumps or grittiness.

Dosing - I just stuck to one scoop due to it being such high in protein and glutamine. I did not feel the need to up my dose at all. I found this to be absolutely perfect.

Effectiveness

NOW this product shined like crazy in this department. It helped me recover a bit faster I believe due to me not taking such a high dose of glutamine ever. I also enjoyed how it did not sit "heavy" in your stomach like a lot of proteins do. I took this usually 30-45 minutes after my workout or however long it took me to get home and I never had any complaints at all.I feel like my strength definitely increased some. Especially in shoulder press. Ended up going up in weight and push out a few more reps. After my tough training days I did not feel any soreness. Maybe some minor soreness here and there but never got the the level like it was before I started taking this supplement.

Value

This is where I turn my back towards this product and more than likely never buy it again. You can get roughly 22 servings for $52.00. :( That is way more than I'm willing to spend on protein powder. I would love to get it again but unfortunately it is way out of my price range. If you have extra money to burn then this would be a great product to go after.

Side Effects

None.

Conclusion

Great product that provided great results. Definitely a product I looked forward to every day and enjoyed taking it due to the amazing flavor and profile that comes with it. The protein is high with the calories being at a sweet spot where both people that are bulking, cutting or even maintaining can take without any problems. Only thing that keeps me away is once again the price. If they can come down to maybe 30-40 max I would not second guess buying this product and adding it into my stack.

 Cons:
  • Builds Muscle
  • Increase Recovery
  • Reduction Of DOMS
  • Too Expensive
  • WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!!

Introduction

As with any opportunity I am grateful for the opportunity to try and give my thoughts on this product. Whey protein is something that we all use and most of us use it on a daily basis. While on the surface it would seem that they are all the same, there are factors that need to be examined to determine the quality of the product.

Ingredient Profile

Macro Breakdown

Per Scoop
160 calories
3g Fat
3g Carbs
2g Sugar
31g Protein

They seem to buck the conventional serving size where you would typically see a scoop weighing in between 110-130 calories and throw a little bigger scoop into the bag. Not a huge deal by any means but interesting. The macro breakdown is pretty good as the sugar and fat content is relatively low in comparison to the amount of protein per serving.

Ingredients

Superior Whey Blend (Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Protein Isolate, Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Isolate), Natural & Artificial Flavors, L-Glutamine, Sucralose, Soy or Sunflower Lecithin

So at the price point they are posing I would have expected pure isolate or even pure hydrolyzed isolate. But the first part of the blend is whey protein concentrate which is one of the cheapest whey proteins available. They make no mention of the process used in extracting the protein on the label so I'm honestly not sure what method they use. At the price point I sure as hell hope that it is all cold processed.

All in all it is a pretty underwhelming profile for the price point. But more on that later.

Taste/Mixability/Dosing

I had the vanilla flavor and it was pleasant enough for just plain vanilla. I had no issues with clumping or foaming which is always nice. Mixed with water I would give it a 6/10 in the taste department and mixed with almond milk I would give it a 7/10. It has a more fine consistency almost like sugar and it really dissolved with just a little shaking. So I would give it high marks on the mixability factor.

Effectiveness

Versus not taking whey protein at all this product will definitely help you recover from a workout and fill in the gaps in your nutrition. Nothing special about this particular protein powder but I will say that I did not get any cramping or gas when taking it either. Cheap proteins generally upset my stomach and give me some pretty gnarly gas. I didn't have any issues with either of those things after taking

Value

Value and price are not synonymous terms. Something that delivers stellar results at a high price still holds good value. Adversely something that delivers poor to no results has no value no matter how cheap the price. The cheapest I could find Superior Whey was $52 for a 2lb bag. I'm really not sure what in their mind justifies this price point. I know that shipping from Australia isn't cheap but the fact that it comes from Australia doesn't add any value to me personally. At this price point I would expect to get a ultra filtered, cold processed, hydrolyzed whey protein. Not a blend of concentrate, isolate, and hydrolyzed. I could never justify $26 per pound for this product no matter how hard I tried. This product should be $30 at the most.

Side Effects

No adverse side effects to speak of while taking Superior Whey.

Conclusion

Just to be clear here. I know this whole review feels like a complete hatchet job but this is not a bad product. It is a ridiculously overpriced product. I would have zero qualms with recommending this product at the $30 (or less) price point. But there is no way I am going to recommend that someone lay their hard earned dollars down on Superior Whey when there are options that are just as good for half the price. Sorry but this one isn't getting my seal of approval.

Introduction

What is up guys? This is my third international Protein product that I have been fortunately able to review. I have enjoyed using their products in the past so I was naturally drawn to this product. I'd like to thank everyone at SR and International Protein for making this review possible!

Ingredient Profile

1 scoop = 1 serving
160 calories
3g Carbs
2g Sugar
31g Protein
Also contains 5.7g of glutamine

Very simple label, but a very good label. 160 Calories isn't overly heavy and should be able to fit into anyone's macro's even if they are on a specific cut/bulk. Carbs and sugar are both relatively low so that's another thing that I like to see and you get a whopping 31g of protein per serving! The addition of extra glutamine is a huge plus as well. I'm constantly looking for additional ways to recover faster and I've found glutamine to help out my recovery a lot. Pretty impressed overall with the label.

Taste/Mixability/Dosing

Taste: I received the chocolate flavor and I have no complaints. I'm not really a big chocolate guy to begin with, however, the taste was not too chocolatey or overpowering. It was a very simple taste if you get what I'm saying.

Mixibility: Perfect mix everytime regardless of how many scoops you use (I recommend using 8 ounces of water and a blender bottle).

Dosage: I used 1-2 scoops post workout to take advantage of my anabolic window. I really enjoyed using this product and have no complaints.

Effectiveness

Protein powder is always hard to really gauge effectiveness because you can't really feel the product working like you can with a stimulant for example. What i can do is describe my strength gains and my overall aesthetic gains for you while using this product. I am currently on a lean bulk (slightly in a caloric surplus) so I used this product to add extra protein to my diet immediately post workout. My strength increased a normal realistic amount over the 3-4 weeks (a handful of pounds on all major compound lifts) and I gotta give some credit to this supplement for helping me to rebuild my body after tearing it down. When I double scooped after some especially brutal workouts, i also felt that this product reduced my DOMs with the added glutamine benefits.

Value

This part is brutal. You can get roughly 22 servings for $52.00. :( That is way more than I'm willing to spend on protein powder, otherwise, I would add this product to my stack.

Side Effects

None

Conclusion

GREAT product! BUT crappy price. I really wish they would bring their margins down so that this product was more accessible to a 'Gym Bros' wallet.

 Pros:
 Cons:
  • Reduction Of DOMS
  • Increase Recovery
  • Builds Muscle
  • Too Expensive
What's up SR! Before I being, I would like to thank International Protein and the Trooper program for the opportunity to give Superior Whey an run. We all know how important having a clean and high quality protein is for recovery and muscle grow. Many of us try to use whole food as a source of our protein intake; however, it can get expensive or just tiring having to eat all day long. Protein shakes are out way to keep our intake of protein. Therefore, when Superior Whey came up, I wanted to give it a run, and coming from a new company, I wanted to see the quality.

Ingredient Profile

As for the label of Superior Whey, very straight forward, nice amino profile; with only 160 Calories, 3 grams of carbs, 2 grams of sugar, and 31 grams of protein. In addition, there is over 5 grams of Glutamine, along with over 3 grams of L-Leucine.

Taste/Mixability/Dosing

Taste - Superior Whey is good tasting, I received the Chocolate flavor; not chemical taste or after taste.

Mix - on some occasions, if I mixed with just water, it would foam a little, I am sure that is from the Whey Peptides. When mixed with almond milk, the foaming was reduced.

Dosing - I used Superior Whey as a mid-day snack, due to the whey concentrate, which tends to digest a bit slower than whey peptides. There is only 22 servings in this so I would use it 3 times a week; especially on days where the night before I worked out.

Scooper - Based on what I have seen on other reviews for International Protein, some do not like it others are a bit on the fence. However, for me, I liked the scooper, since the products come in a bag; the scooper is designed to be able to get a full serving out of the bag. Try doing that with a traditional scooper, you will need to bend the bag or put it upside down to get the last drop out of the bag.

Effectiveness

We know how hard it sometimes it can be to gauge the effectiveness of protein; especially when we are taking a ton of other supplements at the same time. I based my run on how Superior Whey reduced the DOMS from the prior night's workout. Considering the 5 grams of Glutamine in this, I had an idea how my body should react. I would say, I did benefit from a small reduction of DOMS, after about an hour after taking a serving, I could tell that whatever body part I worked out, the soreness was reduced. Now on leg workouts, I needed to increase my servings, as we know, a killer leg workout, will make you walk like a penguin from the DOMS. In addition, I noticed what I was not craving sugar and felt a little fuller when I would take my serving, usually mid-day.

Value

Man, this is where Superior Whey is not superior when it comes to other comparable companies. Only getting 22 or 23 servings out of a bag, with a $53.00 price tag, it kills it for me.

Side Effects

None

Conclusion

Superior Whey is a great clean protein, which supports their claims; however, what makes it hard to justify buying this, is the sticker shock. In my opinion, if the cost can even be brought down to around $39.00, it will still be on the high end, but more appealing for someone looking for a clean source of protein. I would like to thank International Protein again for the opportunity.
