Amino acids are known as “the building blocks of protein” and play a vital role in the growth of muscles, tendons, organs, glands, nails, and hair. There are 22 amino acids – and these are split into essential and non-essential. Essential amino acids must be obtained from your diet as the body cannot produce them on its own. Foods containing all nine essential amino acids are called ‘complete proteins’. Non-essential amino acids are produced in the body. Different amino acid supplements are used to promote muscle growth, reduce muscle soreness, improve recovery rates, increase endurance, and support the immune and digestive systems.
