Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are the preferred energy source for the body. Although it can meet all of its energy needs through the breakdown of protein and fats, the body performs at its best when a steady supply of carbohydrates is present. When there is an instant demand for energy, the body breaks down carbs and sends the energy to the areas which need it most. Carbohydrates can provide an energy boost before a workout, during exercise, or after a workout. They replenish muscle glycogen and increase protein synthesis, which in turn speeds up the recovery process – especially when taken with protein. Compared to eating foods, supplements provide a more convenient and less expensive way of getting carbohydrates.
