Glutamine

A non-essential amino acid and a building block of protein, glutamine plays several key roles in the body, including protein synthesis. It is one of 20 amino acids which occur naturally in dietary protein. Glutamine is conditionally essential – meaning that your body produces it naturally. In healthy people, it is the most abundant free amino acid found in human blood and other bodily fluids. It becomes essential – and must be obtained from the diet – when disease or illness causes muscle wasting, burns, physical trauma or other symptoms. Glutamine is also important for gut health and for the strength of the immune system.
