BCAA Energy is an energized BCAA supplement made by EVLution Nutrition.
As is clear from the product name, the main ingredients are branched-chain amino acids (BCAA). L-leucine, L-isoleucine and L-valine are included at a ratio of 2:1:1 (L-leucine: L-isoleucine: L-valine).
The manufacturer says BCAA are used to support the development of muscle tissue, promote lean mass and enhance recovery. Beta-alanine is included to buffer lactic acid, while L-alanine is said to promote “glucose production for usable energy”.
BCAA Energy also includes green tea and green coffee – described by EVLution Nutrition as “natural energizers” which are thought to be sources of “cleaner energy”.
Replacing coffee for a self described coffee connoisseur
I’ve typically been a person who loves to have their morning and afternoon coffee so I wasn’t sure that this product was for me. After using it almost daily for a month or so now it’s almost entirely replaced coffee in my life. Used as a preworkout a few times but mostly just for an energy boost through the day.
BCAAs: the standard BCAA mix that we all know comes standard in the 2:1:1 we’re all familiar with. Proven time after time to be effective for most people. Beta alanine: this product also comes with 500mg of Beta alanine which isn’t a large dose by any means but feels like a perfect lil jitter for me throughout the day. Taurine: 500mg of Taurine come in this product which honestly I could do with the full gram but it works fine for what it is. A little disappointing but not a deal breaker. L-Alanine: 500mg of alanine comes standard which won’t really do a lot for you other than the supposed aid in synthesis of new proteins. Probably not actually necessary or useful but nice to have on the label. Caffeine: 110mg of caffeine coming from natural sources which is the perfect amount for a lil mid day kick (just about the same as an americano) Other than that there are some vitamins that help with absorption. My favorite thing about this label is the fact that it’s not propietary! I was going back and forth between this and AMINO energy and the deciding factor is really the fact that I really don’t like propietary labels. The only thing that I would add to this supplement is some betaine (which I believe the Amino energy has). —-Taste/Mixability—- I have four flavors: Vanilla Latte, Mango peach, pineapple, and cherry limeade. The vanilla latte and the cherry limeade are fantastic and the main ones I draw from. Kind of wish that we had the variety here that you get in the Amino energy but I imagine that will come with time. The pineapple and mango peach are a little sweet and have a sort of artificial aftertaste but are still pretty good to sip on for an afternoon. I noticed no problem with mixability even for the vanilla latte one which is a little bit thicker.
Like I said, this product has entirely replaced coffee in my life as my go to energy kick and I really love coffee. It also works as a really effective light pre workout for days when I don’t need the big kick from some more heavy stim pre workouts. The beta alanine and the Taurine work beautifully in synthesis with the caffeine to make you feel more physically and mentally alert with basically no crash. If you are interested in using this as a “preworkout light” I would recommend taking it exactly as you would any other preworkout (1-2 scoops, 20-30 mins before) and see how it treats you. Obviously you won’t have the same power output or endurance as a real fully dosed preworkout but I know that at least for me I had all of the energy and mental focus that I need to push through a workout.
The value for this product is just alright (typically at about 68cents per serving). Not fantastic but I compare it to a cup of coffee being a minimum of about $2 at a stand. Plus, they frequently run good sales at bodybuilding.com (I got 90 servings for $33) which can help you make that leap with the price point. I use a maximum of two servings a day so it works out just fine for my wallet.
No real side effects for me (ie crashes, headaches, dizziness, etc).
Overall I would absolutely recommend this product for anyone who wants a light preworkout or a replacement for coffee. If neither of those sound appealing to you then this product probably isn’t for you. Also remember that If you are averse to using caffeine this product has it no matter what you do. I love the fact that I can have a more muscle friendly replacement to my cup of joe.
Solid BCAA product, for a great price!!!
I purchased this product from bodybuilding.com, at a promo of buy 2 (30 servings each) at $19.99 each, get a 3rd free.. So I bought 3 for a total of $39.98. This is your basic 5G 2:1:1 ratio BCAA product, with some beta alanine, taurine, alanine and caffeine and other energizers added to it. For that price and those additions to the 5G BCAA’s, this was definitely a good buy and a good intra workout for me!
I’ve been going to the gym 9 1/2 years. I started off the skinniest weakest kid, and over the years I have gained a lot of size and strength. I workout lifting weights about an hour, followed by 10-15 minutes of cardio. My goals are to increase strength and endurance. I have used a handful of BCAA products in the past, and although this isn’t the best one I’ve used, it is a good one, and the value that I got on it is very good, and that helped give it a better rating in my opinion. I use BCAA products as an intra workout to help keep me going strong through a workout, and I usually take them on my days off as well.
5G BCAA’s at a 2:1:1 ratio L-leucine 2.5G L-isoleucine 1.25G L-Valine 1.25G Carnosyn Beta-Alanine 500mg L-alanine 500mg Taurine 500mg Natural energizers 110mg (caffeine from coffee bean, green tea extract) From a pre-workout standpoint the beta-alanine, taurine, and alanine would be under dosed. However, I take those ingredients at a proper dose in my pre-workout drink I prepare.. this product I use as an INTRA-WORKOUT, so to me, having these ingredients in it, is a plus and an extra, not anything of an under dose. I don’t use this product pre-workout, not using it with the expectation to get adequate pre-workout ingredients, so having those in this product is a plus.
I ordered this in the Blue Rasberry flavor, and the taste was very good. Mixability this product mixes very well no problems there. Dose – 30 servings per tub, serving size is 2 scoops (9G). The instructions says for intense training take 2 servings (4 scoops). Since I got this at such a great price and have plenty to use, I used 4 scoops during workouts (2 servings, 10G BCAA’s), and on off days I would use 1 serving (2 scoops)
This was a pretty effective product. With this being a BCAA product, it isn’t something that you can say either did work or didn’t work, so I’m going to break down how it was effective for me. I use this as an intra workout to help keep me fueled during my workouts. This product did a pretty solid job at keeping me going strong during my workouts. The margin for difference when it comes to using different BCAA products is very thin, and hard for me to really say “wow this BCAA really worked, but that BCAA didn’t work”. This product did what it was supposed to do and compared well to other BCAA workouts I’ve used as an intra workout in terms of powering through my workouts. This product states “mental focus” on the label. I don’t use an intra for mental focus or expect that out of my BCAA products, so I don’t knock points off for it, but I will say this product had no effect on my mental focus, it didn’t increase it. This product has natural energizers in it (has some caffeine in it). Again, I don’t use this for that, so not knocking it, but this didn’t give me that extra wake me up more kind of energy. So if I was to use this for that in the early am instead of coffee, this wouldn’t do much for me there. This product did help me keep pumping in the gym, and this product was pretty good with recovery as well. I didn’t really feel any DOMs after my workouts during my run with this product, so this was nice in aiding and supplementing muscle recovery.
Great value. I purchased this on bodybuilding.com at 30 servings for $19.99 each, but 2 get 1 free. So for just under $40 I got 90 servings! Are you getting 90 servings of a BCAA at gnc? I don’t think so. Great value, and that boosted this products overall rating up alittle bit to me and my rating score of this product!
None to report.
I’ve used a handful of BCAA products in the past, and this isn’t the best one that I’ve used, but it’s not the worst, I’d say its above average compared to the other BCAA’s I’ve used. This has 5G BCAA’s at a 2:1:1 ratio which is right where you want to be, with a small dose of extra stuff added in, including natural energizers. I didn’t really feel the natural energizers in this product, so that wasn’t something about this product that stood out to me compared to other products. The value I paid for this product was out standing. As I mentioned earlier, 90 Servings for $39.98, that’s a great deal, and although this isn’t the best BCAA I’ve used, it’s good enough for me, and will be my future go to BCAA product for that price/value!
A solid BCAA+Energy product, but can’t quite take out the king
Good profile, provided results, a little more expensive than Amino Energy.
Hey SR, back at it again to review Evlution Nutrition’s BCAA+Energy product BCAA Energy. Since I train frasted, follow a ketosis diet and some intermittent fasting, I always have an Amino product on hand to help with recovery and to stay out of a catabolic state. I do like Amino energy products as a pick me up during the day, a sub for a preworkout, a good intra product, and do like their versatility. A lot more of these products are popping up, with the “king” being in my eyes ON’s Amino Energy which you can usually find in a ton of flavors and for cheap. Here’s how BCAA Energy worked for me.
This has a good and similar profile to Amino Energy. Both have 5 g of aminos, but this is purely a 2:1:1 ratio of bcaas. ON’s product is 5g of a BCAA+EAA complex which personally, I prefer. Others may like the straight BCAAs though, I just find EAAs more appealing. Then we have a little over 100 mg of eneergy coming from Green Tea and Coffee Bean, which is almost exactly like ON. I really like this sources of energy because they don’t cause a crash and can hep withg weight loss, albeit not in this amounts but can be a good compliment. Overall, a very similar profile to the “king” and and I looked forward to using it.
Dosing for this is two scoops and can vary a lot. I varied this a lot using it as a pre, intra, and pick me up in the afternoons. All worked well. Mixability was great, little shaking and little foaming. I had the fruit punch flavor and it was perfect.
Honestly, I couldn’t tell a difference between this and Amino Energy and worked great. Is it a premium Recovery product like Intrablast? No. Is it a great preworkout? No. But this did provide me a great boost when I needed it and helped me stay out of a catabolic state and helped some with recovery. It’s a versatile product that you can fit in a lot of different places. I would glady use this product again to help my recovery and energy needs.
This is about $20 for 30 servings, which I feel is a good value. However, this product is so similar to Amino Energy by ON and you can get that for $16 for 30 servings and they have more of a variety of flavors. Is $4 that big of a deal? No, but add that to some variety of flavor options and it would make me swing the other way most times.
A great product for energy and recovery, hope they continue to expand this and make more flavors.
So far so good
Okay its only been a few days but I wanted to write about what changes I’ve noticed already. First of all I’m way less sore therefore working out has been much easier and I feel my best when I’m not sore. It also helps really fast I train lower body four days in a row with a rest day in between so I definitely feel the burn most of the time lol. This stuff has helped tremendously and pretty fast, I also don’t have to do two scoops I just do one sometimes one and a half and I still see positive results, and finally the taste is good its not too sweet only thing I find weird is the aftertaste but all in all that’s the only thing I don’t really like but its tolerable and its worth it for this product as long as they make it I’ll be using it. Also it works pretty good as a pre-workout too I feel more focused and energized when I use it in that way. As a mom sometimes I need that extra boost of energy and this definitely does a great job helping with that. Hope this review helped anyone who wasn’t sure about buying this but its definitely worth the money. Have a merry belated Christmas and happy new year everyone!
