Wanna be the Optimal Man? Then Opti-Men may be the Multi to get you there!!

    —-Introduction—-
37 Years old and lift weights 5 times a week. I look for a multivitamin to help supplement my Vitamin D, since I live in Washington State and the sun only comes out a few months a year. I also look for a multi to give me the overall “wellness” feeling to just live a healthier lifestyle. Finishing a run of Orange Triad, I wanted to try the next best Multi on this site, so I decided to give Opti-Men a go, and give it an updated review! Lets see how it did for me.
    —-Ingredient Profile—-
So there are over 75 ingredients and 4 different prop blends in Opti-Men, so we will not go through each one of them for sanity purposes. If you read my Orange Triad review, I will do the same here for consistency purposes and pick out the ones that I found to be the most important or the most unique for a Multi and then I will talk about those prop blends. Vitamin A – This is good for healthy eyes and general growth and development, including healthy teeth and skin. 3,000 IU per day for men is the RDA, and here we get 10,000 IU ensuring you get your daily share and then some. Vitamin B6/B12 – B6 aka Pyridoxine, is a major vitamin to have in your body daily. It aids in the functions of movement, memory, energy expenditure, and blood flow. 1.3mg daily for men ages 19-50 is the RDA and here we get 50mg, so we are well covered here. B12 boosts your mood, energy level, memory, heart, skin, hair, digestion and more. This vitamin is so important for you, mainly getting you that energy boost, that you will see it sold a lot as a stand alone. In Opti-Men we get 100mcg which is well above the RDA of 2.4mcg. Vitamin C – Good for strengthening blood vessels and giving skin its elasticity, anti-oxidant function, and iron absorption. RDA for men is 60mg, and we get 300mg. Vitamin D – Good for strong healthy bones, and as I said very important to me living in Washington State (not so much in the summer, but mostly winter) since it rains a ton and the sun only makes an appearance for a few months a year. RDA is 600IU and we get 1,500IU. This is 500IU less than is found in Orange Triad, but its ok, I did not really notice. Vitamin E – Good for blood circulation and protection from free radicals. The maximum dose you want of this daily is 1,500 IU, here we get 200 IU leaving you enough buffer room to not go over the maximum daily allowance if you have almonds, nuts, seeds, or tomatoes in your diet. Vitamin K – Good for blood coagulation. RDA when combining supplements and food is 182mcg for men, and here we get 75mcg giving you wiggle room to get more Vitamin K in kale, spinach, burssel sprouts and broccoli. Ya know, the stuff you should be eating!!! Folic Acid – This aids in cell renewal, as well as reducing the risk of birth defects for pregnant women, but thats an afterthought since this Vitamn is geared to men. RDA is 400mcg for men over 13 years old and here we get a healthy 600mcg dose. Calcium – Good for healthy teeth and bones. We get 50mg here, RDA is between 1,000 – 2,500mg for men 19-50 years old. This is the same amount found in Orange Triad, and you can get more calcium in your diet by eating yogurt, cheese, milk, tofu, and black molasses. This is a small dose, so when taking this ensure you make up for the rest in your diet. Zinc – Good for immunity, growth and fertility. 11mg daily for men over 14 and here we get 15mg. Chromium – Good for glucose function – making sure every cell in your body gets energy when needed. This gives you 120mcg which is good, because its recommended you do not exceed 1,000mcg per day, and excessive doses may lead to stomach problems, low blood sugar, and can damage the liver, kidneys, nerves, and cause irregular heart rhythms. Pretty serious stuff! This is strictly talking about Chromium supplements, as Chromium in food will not hurt you no matter what the dosage, so this is a nice safe dose. So those are the most important vitamins you should look for in a good Multi. Now lets briefly touch on the 4 Prop Blends (boooooo) that make this Multi stand out. You get 1g of am Amino Blend (a combination of 8 aminos) which is a small amount, but not a bad addition. The 100mg Phyto Men Blend has a ton of ingredients and is basically your greens blend. Now I did not get the same feeling as if I took a Greens Blend, but this is still a nice addition as long as you eat a decent diet of Fruits and Veggies. You also get 50mg of Viri Men Blend (a bunch of plant extracts, roots, seeds, and leaves) to aid you from getting sick. Finally the 50mg Enzyme Blend (Papain, Bromelain, Alpha Amylase, and Lipase) is also there to aid you in not getting sick. Boron – If you read my Orange Triad review you will see that I thought the dosage there was low. Opti-Men makes me happy coming in with a strong 2mg dose which is great since the RDA is .25 – 3.25mg. Boron aids in building muscle, increase test levels, and builds strong bones. Nice dosage!! Overall, this is a very long profile of ingredients, and I touched on the ones I find important. Very complete multi-vitamin.
    —-Taste/Mixability/Dosing—-
Taste/Mixability – None to note here as they are pills, and really had no taste at all. I found the pills are not pleasant if you hold them on your tongue for longer than 10 seconds, but thats just my taste buds, no big deal if you swallow them up. Dosing: The directions call for 3 pills daily with food. I just took all 3 with breakfast to be done with it, but you can split this up as you see fit, and likely the best way to do it is 1 pill per meal. Simple enough and I like that it gives you the option to dose as you see fit.
    —-Effectiveness—-
Its always tough to judge the effectiveness of a Multi Vitamin. There are no crazy claims on the label to go off of, its just there as a very potent multi-vitamin. During my 50 day run of this, I was not sick so at least I can say it helped out. About a year ago, when I was not taking a Multi daily, I would get sick much easier. Nothing dramatic, but a simple sore throat and cold. Typically when I get run down I get sore throats, and in my last week or two on this my work schedule has been long and my sleep has been less which typically spells out a recipe for disaster for me. I would start to get a sore throat when I went to bed, but once I got up I would feel okay, then once I took this with breakfast, I always felt that better overall well feeling. I do believe that this vitamin was aiding my body in fighting off any illnesses that wanted to creep up on me, so those prop blends did some good work. One day off this pill and I already feel worse than I did when on it. I would definitely switch back to this pill in the near future.
    —-Value—-
I picked this up on Amazon for $22.53 for 50 servings which comes out to 45 cents a day. To me this a fantastic deal for the amount of ingredients in this Multi. 45 cents a day to ensure you can go through life and battle off illnesses, Good enough for me to say what a great deal!!
    —-Side Effects—-
Slightly yellowish/green pee, but not as bad as other Multi’s I have taken. If you dose this out throughout the day you can mitigate the weird pee, but typically by mid morning it was gone for me. However, DO take this with food! Yes this is very potent, I took it without food once and started to get nauseous until I ate. Just follow the instructions and you will have no side effects.
    —-Conclusion—-
Looking for that complete Multi to optimize you as a man? Look no further than Opti-Men (sounds like a commercial right?). Great value, effective at keeping you functioning at a healthy level, and great dosing for those important vitamins. I recommend you grab a bottle of this and keep it in your daily regimen!

Makes a strong case for best multivitamin, and at a price point lower than its competitors

    —-Introduction—-
Greetings SR! Multivitamins don’t get the love of the more sexy supplements like Pre-Workouts, proteins, and thermogenics but they’re still a foundational item that most of us take to ensure that we’re getting all those micros are being met and the body can do what its supposed to do. How does this stack up from one of the most well known companies in the game, let’s see!
    —-Ingredient Profile—-
8.8 There are 48 reviews on this product already that have gone deep into the ingredients section so I won’t belabor the point that this is one of the most complete multivitamins that you can get. There are a few particular items worth mentioning however about the ingredients. 1. Almost all of the named vitamins are dosed at or above the RDA. The exceptions to this are Vitamin K, Calcium, Magnesium, Manganese (close at 87%) and Sodium. I wanted to mention this because with the exception of possibly magnesium, you should be getting the bulk of those in your diet as they are common in many different food. 2. There are 4 different prop blends in this product. While I hate this in pre-workouts and many other supplements, I don’t care as much here personally. My thought on that is that is that at the size of the blends are too small and I don’t have to worry about overdosing anything here. The Amino Blend is 1g, the Phyto Blend is 100mg, the Viri Blend is 50mg and the Enzyme Blend is 50mg. 3. There is no Iron in this multi. I prefer that as I eat rather copious amounts of red meat, eggs, and other high iron foods but for some people this might be looked at as a negative. 4. There is nothing in here for joint support. I think this is one of the bigger letdowns but honestly, I can’t fault them that much as adding in the amount of glucosamine and chondroitin (or other joint support) that you would need would make the product much larger and expensive.
    —-Taste/Mixability/Dosing—-
8.0 If you leave the rather large pill in your mouth for a few seconds, its kinda a spicy/peppery taste. Unless you were doing that out of sheer curiosity, I can’t imagine why you’d want to try it. After being swallowed though, there is no aftertaste. As a pill there is no mixability. Dosing is 3 pills with food daily. I split up my dosing with 2 pills in the morning and 1 in the evening. This should make it more absorbable as there is a limit to how much your body can process at once. The best idea is to take one with each of your 3 big meals, but I absolutely hate carrying around pills during the day so I take this way.
    —-Effectiveness—-
8.5 Its hard to rate whether or not a multivitamin is effective. I have been taking this specific one every day for the past year or so and I think it’s the best at getting all the vitamins and minerals my body needs. I feel better knowing this need has been met by this product, it’s one more thing I don’t need to worry about and when my diet isn’t as varied as it should be, I’m not negatively impacting my training by missing out on certain vitamins. Compared to other multis, this is extremely complete and I don’t need to stack almost anything on top of it (the exception being a joint support product) so you can say its effective at getting me what I know I need.
    —-Value—-
9.2 You can get this almost everywhere and if you get the 240 ct, the best deal I can find is for $32. That gets you out the door at right at 40 cents a day, assuming you take the full 3 pill dose as recommended. I think this gets you pretty great value as their primary competitors of Orange Triad and Animal Pak (#2 and #3 on SR’s rankings) are both more expensive.
    —-Side Effects—-
You’re going to get the standard neon pee with this multi but I didn’t notice any bad smell like a few reviewers have. Only other thing worth mentioning is that I did experience stomach issues when I took this without food. When they say take with food they mean it!
    —-Conclusion—-
8.8 I’ve been taking this supplement for over a year so it’s pretty clear I’m a fan of the product and would recommend it enthusiastically. The dosages for this product are right where I need them to be and the few things that are not fully dosed are not the things my diet lacks. There are a few other products out there that compare to this product but I think ON edges them out in terms of value, you just can’t get more out of a multi for the price, highly recommend!
