Also known as General Nutrition Centers, GNC is a well-known brand that sells supplements both online and in brick-and-mortar stores. The company was founded in 1935 and its headquarters are in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
As well as being the name of a supplement-store chain, GNC also makes and sells its own private-label products. The company’s manufacturing arm is Nutra Manufacturing Inc, which is based in Greenville, South Carolina and was founded in 1978.
According to Reuters.com, GNC brand names count for around 50% of the supplements sold in the company’s stores. Products sold under the company’s own brand include – or have included – GNC Triple Strength Fish Oil, GNC Total Lean (meal replacement), and GNC CoQ – 10. It also sells own-brand protein powder and vitamins, as well as separate nutritional supplements for men and women.
GNC makes and sells the Beyond Raw series for the sports and fitness market. This range includes Beyond Raw LIT (pre-workout), L-Citrulline (for muscle pumps), and Chemistry Labs™ Creatine HCL (for muscle energy).
All GNC products are made in “state-of-the-art” facilities using the “latest technology”. According to the GNC website, the brand’s vitamins are put through “150 quality and safety tests” to ensure they meet the Food and Drug Administration’s labelling regulations.
Before manufacturing, the company analyzes all raw materials for purity and potency, while all finished products are tested for freshness. Meanwhile “package integrity” analysis involves checking the number of capsules in each bottle (and other count checks), as well as testing the seal, product number, expiration date and more.
In addition, all GNC supplement labels disclose “important information to consumers” as part of the brand’s “truth in labelling policy”. All labels also comply with standards set by the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA). To achieve this, the brand says it employs scientific research to back up its product claims and provides warnings about the presence of allergens where necessary.
