Introduction

Although new management has seemingly taken away our ability to review products and participate in the TROOP Program (I hope it's just a temporary glitch), I was lucky enough to latch onto a couple of TROOP items before the changeover. Thanks to Muscle Nutrition for allowing us to review their product. To the new management--please fix the glitch, if there is one. You're about to lose a TON of loyal workout enthusiasts by not allowing us to do what the site name implies.

Ingredient Profile

Shrink Toning Lotion contains a blend of ingredients designed to tighten the skin and shrink fat cells.

Deionized Water, Aloe Vera Gel, Soybean Oil, Glycerin, Carnitine, Caffeine, Coenzyme A, Coenzyme Q, Ethoxydiglycol, Sambucus, Nigra Flower Extract, Sodium Polyacrylate, Butylene Glycol, PEG 8, Bupleurum Falcatum Extract, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Propylene Glycol, Isopropyl Palmitate, PEG-40 Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Fragrance, Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid and Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E).

Many of the listed ingredients are to help transport the blend under the skin and into the cells. Here's a breakdown of what I was able to find on the key ingredients.
Soybean oil is supposed to help reduce cholesterol.

Glycerin: works to moisturize the skin by drawing water from the air into the skin's outer layer. It also forms a protective layer that helps prevent moisture loss.
Carnitine: L-carnitine functions by transporting fatty acids into the mitochondrion, where they are burned for energy.

Coenzyme A: a co-enzyme, notable for its role in the synthesis and oxidation of fatty acids, and the oxidation of pyruvate in the citric acid cycle.

Coenzyme Q: acts as an antioxidant, which protects cells from damage and plays an important part in the metabolism.

Sambucus: Also known as elderberry. It boosts the immune system and helps fight the flu.

Nigra Flower Extract: has potent antioxidant properties due to the flavonoid compounds naturally present. It also has skin-soothing effects.

Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E): a nutrient that's important to vision, reproduction, and the health of your blood, brain and skin.

Taste/Mixability/Dosing

Here's the dilemma that I have with Shrink Toning Lotion. There are no specific instructions on how much to use. It just says to apply to a clean, dry area of rhe skin with clean hands, preferably 10 minutes before a workout. I used a similar product in the past (Supernova by Evomuse) and the instructions stated to use a silver dollar amount in the palm and rub it into the desired area until fully absorbed. I did that with this product and after 30 days, there was still about 5-10 days of the lotion remaining.

Effectiveness

So, I felt a warm, pins and needles sensation when I first applied it, kind of like a toned down beta analine tingly sensation with a touch of heat added. It worked pretty well for me. It reduced the appearance of stretch marks and really tightened my midsection. There was a noticeable difference in my appearance. I don't think that this was due to water weight loss because I didn't urinate more frequently than normal. I've provided a before and after picture as an example. The pictures were taken exactly 30 days apart.

Value

Shrink Toning Lotion can be purchased on Amazon for $39.99, which puts it pretty much on par with most other similar products. The main difference here is that this is, IMHO, more than just some transdermal diuretic. When used in combination with a decent workout program, you can shed some stubborn fat while using this.

Side Effects

Warm, tingly sensation that subsides after about 10 minutes.

Conclusion

I didn't expect much, but Shrink Toning Lotion worked surprisingly well for me. Would I buy this again? Yes, definitely! I should note that this product probably works best for those who are already somewhat lean, probably in the 15% and below range. This is a great tool for those who are either recomping (like myself) or looking to lose some extra fat and tighten up the stubborn areas.

Introduction

First, thanks to Loud Muscle Science for supporting the TROOPs. I've never been a big believer when it comes to herbal libido boosters or test boosters, but I had seen a few good reviews on Launch Sequence, and curiosity got the best of me.

Ingredient Profile

Each serving consists of 2 pills, and there are a total of 30 servings in a bottle. It's a prop blend. I'm not a fan of blends, but again, because of the positive reviews, I gave it a pass.

Launch Sequence Proprietary Blend--1560mg:
Tongkat Ali:For sexual health and strength
Horny goat weed: For treating low libido
Tribulus terrestris: For being over hyped and worthless
Yohimbe bark: For treating erectile dysfunction
Ashwagandha: For boosting testosterone and treating stress
Maca: For hormonal balance and fighting fatigue
Mucuna pruriens: For L Dopa (feel good)
Muira puama: Anti-inflammatory
Rhodiola rosea extract: For fighting stress and fatigue

Actually, there's nothing really earth shattering here as far as the ingredients are concerned. These are the same ingredients typically found in test boosters/libido boosters. I'm curious to know why companies still include tribulus in their ingredients. It's been shown to be pretty ineffective.

Taste/Mixability/Dosing

There was no taste; they're cobalt blue capsules. Each bottle contains 60 capsules, and the company recommends 2 capsules daily (more on that later).

Effectiveness

So, honestly I really don't see the need to take this daily unless you're suffering from mild to moderate erectile dysfunction (sorry for sounding like a Cialis ad...lol). I took two capsules and it took maybe 2 hours to kick in. I noticed firmer erections, my sensation was slightly enhanced, and my orgasm intensity was slightly increased. Good, but not really spectacular. When I took 3 capsules...WHOA! My erections were full and throbbing. My sensation was enhanced even more, my orgasms were intense, and I noticed very little, if any refractory period. Good stuff, however, I did experience some migraine headaches and congestion. I have read in numerous medical reports that prescription ED medications can cause headaches and congestion. Considering how well this worked and the side effects, I'm wondering if Loud Muscle Science added a little extra ingredient that they conveniently left off the label.(?)

Value

This is where things get ridiculous. The lowest price I could find for a 30 serving bottle of Launch Sequence was $89.95 on Amazon. This is not acceptable, especially when you can find similar libido/test boosters with fully disclosed labels and similar ingredients for 2, maybe 3 times LESS!

Side Effects

Intense headaches, congestion, heartburn

Conclusion

Launch Sequence, although a solid product, has a prop blend and a high price. I honestly believe that anyone could buy each separate ingredient in bulk and take them together for similar effects and a lot less pocket strain. I just don't see paying 90 bucks for a single bottle of something...ANYTHING with a prop blend. It's a shame, because Launch Sequence really does work.

Introduction

Greetings, SR family! As I continue my never-ending quest to shred and build at the same time, I'm always looking for products that I feel may give me an extra kick in the pants to move me through plateaus, both on the muscle building and fat loss ends of the spectrum. Myokem's Pyroxamine has apparently been on the market for a few years now, and quite honestly, I don't know how it slipped beneath my radar. However, when the opportunity came for me to review it, I jumped on it, especially since the reviews for it are mostly positive. Thank you to Myokem for being part of the TROOP Program.

Ingredient Profile

To say the list of ingredients is comprehensive would be an understatement. Stevenz gave a pretty detailed description of how each ingredient works, so I'll just list them and say that they support fat loss, appetite suppression, and thermogenesis.

Caralluma fimbriata (125mg)
Olive Leaf {std. 20% Oleuropein} (100mg)
Caffeine Anhydrous (100mg)
L-Theanine (50mg)
Cognizin Citicoline (50mg)
TeaCrine Theacrine (50mg)
Bacopa monnieri extract 5:1 (50mg)
Grains of Paradise {std. 12.5% paradol} (40mg)
Evodia rutaecarpe {std. 95% Evodiamine} (25mg)
Theobromine (25mg)
Sacred Lotus (25mg)
Barley{std. to Hordenine} (25mg)
Huperzine-A 1% (5mg)
Bioperine (5mg)

Taste/Mixability/Dosing

Per the label directions, I took one capsule three times a day on an empty stomach with about 8 ounces of water 30 minutes prior to eating, which meant I took one in the morning, one around noon, and one prior to my early evening workout.

Effectiveness

I was quite impressed with how effective Pyroxamine was for me. I noticed a marked heating effect, which I suspect was due to the grains of paradise and evodiamine. This worked great in suppressing my appetited, however, it did cause me to be slightly nauseous from time to time. My weight dropped from 228 to 224, and I noticed more definition in my abdominal area; definitely increased separation. I didn't make any changes to my diet, and I've pretty much been an anti-cardio guy since my back surgery in January, meaning I probably could have seen some pretty amazing results with a lower caloric intake and increased cardio.

Value

Here's where I gave Pyroxamine its lowest marks. For best results, the label states to take 3 capsules a day. Each bottle contains 60 capsules, so you're looking at only a 20 day supply. Of course, you can stretch it to 30 days by taking 2 caps a day, but I'm not sure the results will be as impressive. Anyway, the lowest price I could find for Pyroxamine was on Myokem's website for around $50 bucks. Compared to other thermogenics, this is quite pricey, and although it works well, I'd have to budget so I could purchase an additional bottle for a 40 day run.

Side Effects

Occasional slight nausea

Conclusion

Myokem has a surefire hit on its hands with Pyroxamine. Because I'm balling on a budget, it may be a while before I actually take the plunge and shell out $100 for a 40 day supply. Nonetheless, if you can afford it, I say go for it!

Introduction

First of all, I would like to thank VMI Sports for allowing me to review this product. I have taken quite a few of their supplements, and have been pretty impressed so far. They have also left a positive impression on some of my fellow TROOP members.

I have been on a fat fighting mission ever since my back surgery earlier on this year. Prior to that, I was on a never-ending recomp mission, because I feel that at between 225-230 pounds, I really don't want any more bulk. Hell, I'm a 40 something, and I'm not competing. Carnitine has been around for quite some time, and I figured that it couldn't hurt to give it a shot.

Ingredient Profile

Pretty simple: 3 different types of carnitine

L-Carnitine 1.5 g -This is the standard form of L-Carnitine. It reportedly helps to increase energy.

L-Carnitine L-Tartrate 750 mg - This is one of the most common forms of carnitine found in sports supplements, due to its rapid absorption rate. It may help with exercise-related factors such as muscle soreness and recovery.

Acetyl L-Carnitine 750 mg -Often called ALCAR, this is possibly the most effective form for the brain. It may also be used to treat neurological conditions such as Alzheimer's disease. This form of Carntine can actually help with cognitive functions. ALCAR has the ability to penetrate the blood brain barrier, allowing it to stay in the central nervous system. Acetyl L-Carnitine latches onto fatty acids and carries them into your mitochondria. It gives your mitochondria the raw materials to produce lots of energy and function at their best. In other words, you need ALCAR to metabolize fat. If you're low on carnitine, fat can't get into your mitochondria, and you struggle to use it for fuel.

Taste/Mixability/Dosing

I had the cherry lime flavor, and I have to say, the flavor was surprisingly good. It was the proper balance of sweetness and tartness. The label suggests a serving (one tablespoon) on an empty stomach. This would make a great energy shot, but I had to dilute it in about 6 ounces of water (see below).

Effectiveness

So, here's where I was scratching my head. I had previously used L-Carnitine 3000's fraternal twin, L-Carnitine Heat, which contains the same carnitine blend, plus added fat burning and appetite suppressing ingredients. That worked great for me; L-Carnitine 3000? Not so much. First of all, taking it per label recommendation gave me extreme diarrhea to the point where I had to dilute the product in water. I'm not sure why I reacted that way to this product and not VMI's similar product, but it was not a pleasant experience. Even diluted in water, I still experienced gas and discomfort.

I took this about 2 weeks after I stopped using L-Carnitine Heat, and although I noticed that I sweated slightly more, I really didn't notice any major changes. I dropped maybe a pound an a half with no other noticeable changes to my body composition. With VMI's other product, there was a definite leaning effect. However, with L-Carnitine 3000, I saw no increase in energy and no enhanced cognitive effects. This could be because studies have shown L-Carnitine's effectiveness at higher doses.

Value

So, you get 31 servings for less than $20. Had this worked for me, then I'd say that it was a great value. However, because of my experience, it was just OK value-wise.

Side Effects

Diarrhea, gas, upset stomach

Conclusion

As much as I like VMI's products, it pains me to give this one such a low score, especially when so many other users have had good experiences with it. In all honesty, I recommend using L-Carnitine Heat. I got much better results with no stomach discomfort whatsoever.

Quick Summary

This is one of three anti estrogen products that VMI reformulated to fight excess estrogen and lower cortisol. Arima XD is a pretty good arimistane alternative.

Introduction

Thanks to VMI Sports for being part of the TROOP program and allowing myself and fellow TROOPers the chance try this product. I was a little skeptical about this, especially since VMI got rid of arimistane, (an effective AI and libido booster) but kept ARIMA on the label-a little deceptive, but that's just MY opinion. However, I saw out some of the reviews on here and they were mostly very positive, so I figured, "Why not?"

Ingredient Profile

VMI is mostly transparent with their labeling and I appreciate the fact that none of the major ingredients are hidden in proprietary blends. Most of the ingredients have been shown to be effective at blocking estrogen and cortisol build up.

"Estrogen Destroyer Matrix"

Calcium-D-Glucarate: 350mg
DIM: 150mg
Indole-3-Carbinol: 150mg

Calcium-D-Glucarate might lower estrogen levels, and this is thought to be helpful in treating some people with hormone-dependent cancers.
Indole-3-Carbinol is a powerful anti-estrogen compound found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, brussel sprouts kale, and cabbage. I3C is regularly used to balance hormone levels, support optimal liver and intestine function, and enhance immune system functioning.

Diindolylmethane is the active component of I3C.
DIM has three main benefits:
Makes estrogen metabolize down the 2-hydroxy estrone pathway
Frees up bound testosterone
Acts as a natural aromatase inhibitor.

"Aromatase Enzyme Inhibitor"
(Prop blend: 165mg)
Chrysin
Astragin

Chrysin is purported to have anti-estrogen properties, but real-life studies and applications have shown this to be fairly worthless. A 1984 study found that chrysin had significant aromatase-inhibitory activity when tested with placental microsomes. However, evidence of chrysin's lack of effectiveness in inhibiting aromatase is found in an article in JAMA several years ago. Fifteen researchers tested an androstenedione product, fortified with chrysin, to determine if chrysin would prevent estradiol levels from increasing. It didn't. It appears that chrysin may be an effective aromatase inhibitor for cells in a Petri dish but not in humans.

I'm scratching my head as to why VMI would include an unproven ingredient in Arima-XD.

Astragin has shown in studies to help support the lining of the intestines for better overall absorption within the human body.

Taste/Mixability/Dosing

These are pills, so they are tasteless and there is nothing to mix.
The dosing is 2 pills daily prior to food/meal, on an empty stomach

Effectiveness

After I read the reviews on Arima-XD, I was anxious to try it.
I didn't notice anything until about 10 days in. From day 10 on, I noticed that I was slightly more vascular and looked a little leaner and dryer. I didn't notice any strength increase, but I did have a slight rise in my libido. I also noticed some aching joints-nothing like what I experienced while taking arimistane; the achy joints were manageable and didn't really impede me in any way. I was expecting a little more from this, but the label does say to take for 6-8 weeks, meaning purchasing two bottles is recommended. I'll probably do another run of Arima-XD, but using two bottles so I can truly gauge its effectiveness.

Value

The cheapest I could find this was on allstarhealth.com for under $25 for a 30 day supply. I think that it represents a good value, even if you decide to purchase a second bottle.

Side Effects

Dry joints

Conclusion

Overall, this is a pretty solid product. I suspect that because it takes almost two weeks to kick in and the label recommends using it for 6-8 weeks, best results will occur after the second bottle. Is Arima-XD better than arimistane? I would say no, but it is a better than average arimistane alternative. It's definitely worth trying.

Introduction

First of all, I want to thank Myokem for supporting the TROOPs and giving us the opportunity to try Thyrovate. In my ongoing quest to get my bodyfat back into the single digits, I am trying new products to assist me. I have been a guinea pig of late, using stim-based thermogenics with ALCAR, and combining non-stim thermogenics with an AI. I know it sounds crazy, but so far, my guinea pigging has been pretty effective. This time around, I opted to use Thyrovate, which is a stim-free fat burner that comes in a cool looking bottle and also claims to target midsection fat. So, does it work?

Ingredient Profile

Kudos to Myokem for providing transparent labeling. Thyrovate contains some pretty exotic sounding ingredients.

Japanese Mugwort Extract (300mg) Shown to exhibit weight loss in mice while consuming foods high in fat.

iFAS503 (250mg) This is a patented combination of Green Tea, Tuber Fleeceflower, and Parasitic Loranthus. We all know how effective green tea is regarding weight loss and alertness. Numerous studies have shown its effectiveness, and it continues to be a staple ingredient in many weight loss products. Tuber fleece-flower and parasitic Loranthus have long been used in traditional Chinese medicine, and recent studies show that it may inhibit fatty acid synthesis.

Olive Leaf Extract (200mg) Olive leaf extracts are a natural boosters of the thyroid hormone. The high oleuropein content helps to lower cholesterol and also regulate glucose levels.

Weak Jumby Pepper (140mg) This has been shown to exert strong lipolytic properties. One study showed it to be 20 times stronger than caffeine at stimulating lipolysis.

Sensoril Ashwagandha Extract (125mg) Sensoril is the patented form of Ashwagandha extract. Ashwagandha is a "feel good" herb that helps eliminate anxiety and stress.

Paradoxine Grains of Paradise Extract (80mg) Research has shown that grains of paradise extract may significantly increase energy expenditure and accelerate the loss of brown adipose (fat) tissue.

Wakame Extract (20mg) Research has shown that wakame improves carbohydrate metabolism, meaning carbs will be stored in your muscles instead of the midsection and love handle areas.

Bioperine (5mg) Bioperine works by improving ingredients' absorption into the body.

Taste/Mixability/Dosing

These are cool looking black pills that have no taste.

The dosing is 2 capsules twice a day. I took my first dose with breakfast , and the second dose before bed.

Effectiveness

I didn't start noticing results until about 10 days in. The grains of paradise gave me a warm feeling inside. It didn't have me sweating profusely, but I did feel warmer and sweated more than usual, especially when working out. Thyrovate did a good job suppressing my appetite, and even lived up to its claim of reducing the stubborn fat in my midsection. I lost about three and a half pounds without really changing my diet or adding any additional cardio to my workout regimen. I was pretty impressed with this stuff.

Value

So, Myokem's website sells Thyrovate for $49.99. It sells elsewhere like Amazon for around $10 less. I would say that it's pretty competitive with other non-stim thermogenics, especially Neco-Adipem, which is another excellent product, but is priced at $20 more.

Side Effects

Increased body temperature, added sweating

Conclusion

Myokem have really impressed me with their product line, and Thyrovate is another winner. I highly recommend this, and would definitely use it again for a longer 8 week cycle.

Introduction

Greetings, SR family! I'm back again with another review. For those that have been following my recovery following back surgery, you know that I've been on a mission to get (and keep) my body fat below 10%. I've been on a never ending recomp, because I'm not competing, and I feel that at 230 pounds (6'2"), I don't need to do any bulking.

Anyway, when I saw HD Labs' Perspire added to the TROOP program, I was more curious than anything. With a name like Perspire, it has to be an intense thermogenic, right? Thanks to HD Labs for supporting the SR TROOP program.

Ingredient Profile

Kudos to HD Labs for having all of their ingredients fully disclosed. It's pretty much standard thermogenic fare, but with a few added perks.

Niacin (20 mg)--Niacin (Vitamin B3) works as a method to gain weight by providing the body with much-needed energy and burning the bad cholesterol present in the body. The weight is reduced by Niacin as it reduces the amount of bad cholesterol present which forms the undue fat.
Vitamin B6 (as P5P)--Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate, or P5P as it is commonly known, is the active form of vitamin B6. This vitamin an essential nutrient to raising the body's metabolism. Vitamin B6 has also been shown to boost the immune system, helps support muscle growth by helping to absorb amino acids for recovery, and helps to eliminate cravings by efficiently regulating blood sugar and hormones.
Vitamin B12 (60 mcg)--Vitamin B12 plays a major role in a number of the body's essential functions, including DNA synthesis and the formation of red blood cells. It also helps the body convert fats and proteins into energy and aids in the breakdown of carbohydrates. However, there's also no reported evidence to support the claim that vitamin B12 will help you lose weight.
VitaShure Caffeine (350 mg) --Everybody knows the benefits of caffeine with regards to burning fat and weight loss. HD labs added the VitaShure encapsulation technology. VitaShure is a patented product from the Balchem Corporation. It is an approach in taste masking, stability enhancement and sustained release, which works by combining customize release with taste masking in high-dose powders. VitaShure allows a sustained release of nutrients and also enables manufacturers to use the correct nutrient formulation to ensure that the vitamins and minerals that are listed on a product's label are consistent with the perceived nutrient values when purchased by the consumer. I applaud HD Labs for adding this. The caffeine is a sustained release and doesn't hit all at once, which can lead to a crash.
Caffeine (125 mg)--Maybe the extra 125 mg of caffeine was added for an extra stimulant effect...?
Theacrine (as TeaCrine) (50 mg)--TeaCrine delivers energy, mental clarity, and improved motivation and mood. It does not increase heart rate or
blood pressure and is not a stimulant. It can also enhance and extend the positive effects of caffeine while minimizing its negative side effects.
Citicoline (25 mg)--Citicoline is a naturally occurring compound and a building block of cell membranes. It is a common ingredient in supplements marketed for brain support.
Capsimax (Capsicum Pepper Extract) (25 mg)--Capsimax is concentrated highly-active, natural capsicum extract from red hot chili peppers that delivers all of the heat of capsaicin without the gastric burn. Capsimax delivers effective levels of capsaicinoids without the oral and gastric burning sensation of unprotected red hot peppers. The capsaicinoids in Capsimax support energy production by promoting healthy metabolism, the mobilization of fats for energy production, and thermogenesis by generating heat in the body.
Paradoxine (grains of paradise extract) (25 mg)--Paradoxine is ideal for anyone looking for improved body composition and enhanced fat loss from their supplements. It's perfect to use in a thermogenic pre-workout, or as part of a more comprehensive fat burning formula. Paradoxine is especially ideal for those stim-sensitive individuals who still want to get some extra fat burning, but don't want the stims contained in most fat burners on the market. Typically, Paradoxine is dosed anywhere from 25-50mg per day, and with the "sweet spot" being in the 40-50mg range. This is where you'll start to notice the enhanced thermogenic effect of the supplements, in the form of feeling significantly warmer than usual. HD Labs has it dosed at the lower end of the spectrum. However when combined with another thermogenic like capsicum, it has a synergistic effect and will definitely turn up the body's thermostat and have the user sweating buckets (more on this later).
A-GPC Powder (25 mg)--Alpha GPC is famous for its nootropic benefits. The main benefits of taking Alpha-GPC are memory enhancement, energy boost, and mood & mental stamina.
Huperzia Serrata Extract (5 mg)--Huperzia Serrata extract is promoted as a memory enhancer because it acts as a cholinesterase inhibitor, meaning that it has similar effects on neurotransmitters as some FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.

As you can see, HD Labs uses the patented forms of many of the ingredients found in similar products. In theory, this usually means higher concentration and better delivery at lower doses.

Taste/Mixability/Dosing

Perspire comes in bright orange capsules, so there is no taste. Each bottle contains 30 capsules, and the recommended dosage is 1 capsule once or twice a day. Because only 30 come in a bottle, I took the one a day route.

Effectiveness

To say that Perspire lived up to its moniker would be an understatement. I was definitely sweating buckets. However, unlike other thermogenincs containing capsicum, I had no heartburn issues. There was definitely an increase of body temperature that gradually increased and stayed with me for about 6 hours. Even in an air conditioned office sitting still, I was drenched in sweat. I had enhanced focus, and although there's a total of 425 mg of caffeine in each capsule, I didn't feel as though it were overkill. I had energy, but it was a smooth, gradual wave of energy. I never felt like a crackhead and didn't experience any type of crash.

I could definitely "feel" Perspire working for me, but without any heartburn or feeling overly stimulated. Perspire was also effective in controlling my appetite. I was never excessively hungry or had any cravings during my run.

After about 3 weeks of use, I looked leaner, and my abs and shoulders show more definition than normal. I also lost 4 pounds and about a half inch from my waist. I was pretty pleased with the results and also how I felt while taking Perspire.

Value

I could only find Perspire on HD Labs' website for around 36 bucks. This is a tad more expensive than other similar products that usually have double the number of capsules. Thirty capsules for 36 dollars equates to $1.20 per serving. It's kinda pricey, but considering the fact that Perspire uses the patented forms of many of its ingredients, and one serving is really all you need, it's definitely worth buying if you have a few extra dollars.

Side Effects

Sweat, sweat, and more SWEAT!

Conclusion

I have a very short list of stimulant-based thermogenics that I actually looked forward to taking and would be a repeat customer without hesitation. Perspire has been added to that list. If you hate sweating, you might want to look elsewhere. If you're looking for a thermogenic that you can actually feel working and won't leave you feeling over stimmed, then I highly recommend Perspire.

Introduction

Thanks to Myokem for participating in the TROOP program. I'm going to be reviewing Myokem's natural anabolic product Alphadex. What interested me about this product was the muscle building/fat loss/recomp potential of its ingredients. Because I'm in a constant phase, it seemed to make sense to give this product a try.

Ingredient Profile

Kudos to Myokem for giving a fully disclosed ingredient profile. Like many on SR.com, I'm not a big fan of prop blends. Prop blends only get a pass from me if the product works well.

Alphadex contains four ingredients for a total of 450 mg.

Safflower seed extract (10% Trachesloside) 200mg: This ingredient is said to increase fat metabolism and improve blood glucose levels.

Brassaiopsis glomerulata extract 125mg: This ingredient acts as a testosterone boosting support agent, and also reportedly inhibits the aromatase enzyme.

Acacetin 100mg: Said to reduce estrogen levels, boost testosterone, and lower cortisol.

Garcinia mangostana extract 25mg: Has been shown to possibly aid in fat loss through inducing lipolysis and blood glucose support.

Also included is 5mg of bioperine (black pepper extract) to enhance absorption.

Taste/Mixability/Dosing

There is no taste, as these are capsules. As for dosing, the label directions say to take one capsule twice a day with food, preferably spread out. I took my first capsule with breakfast, my second with lunch, about 5 hours later.

Effectiveness

Okay, so Alphadex didn't exactly strikeout with me, but it wasn't a home run either. There were many areas that it fell short.

First of all, I did have a more alpha male feeling in the gym; my aggression was definitely up. In addition, I would say that I had a very noticeable increase in my libido. Woody always seemed to be ready.

I did notice some increased vascularity and I had a little more dryness and definition to my physique. However, as far as pumps, size, and strength increases were concerned, nothing. I was able to pump out maybe 1-2 extra reps on each lift, but honestly, I was expecting a bit more. I'm not one to expect "steroid-like" gains from any product, especially natural anabolics/test boosters, but I've experienced better results from similarly marketed products. It should be noted that the label recommends this to be taken for a minimum of 8 weeks, so in theory, Alphadex might be a little more effective over a longer period of time. However, an 8 week run could put quite a deep dent in one's pockets.

Value

The lowest price i was able to find Alpha was on bestpricenutrition.com for about $45. This is very pricey for a 28 day supply of a product that only partially delivered. Take into account that you may need to run two bottles to see any true effects, and you're looking at paying 90 bucks for something that might not work as well as other products that give better results in less than 4 weeks at a fraction of the price. I am by no means a baller, and if I were, I'd still think twice before springing for two bottles. If you can find it on sale, Alphadex might be worth a try as a one-time, 8 week run.

Side Effects

None

Conclusion

Alphadex is not a strikeout; it's more of a leadoff single that could be stretched into a double. I was expecting more, especially at it's price point. If you have some money saved up and can find it on sale, I would say at least give it a shot for 8 weeks. However, for me, there are better, less expensive AI choices.

Magnitropin is a natural test booster that works pretty well.

Introduction

I've always been kind of a skeptic when it came to test boosters, especially those containing tribulus. However, I saw all the positive reviews of Magnitropin, and I was curious. When the opportunity came to test it through the TROOP program, I said, "what the heck?" Thanks to Myokem for supporting the TROOPs.

When the opportunity came to test it through the TROOP program, I said, "what the heck?" Thanks to Myokem for supporting the TROOPs.

Ingredient Profile

Magnitropin contains an interesting herbal ingredient profile, many of which I am totally unfamiliar with.

1.45g PAEDERIA FOETIDA EXTRACT: Paederia foetida is a plant that goes by various names, including Chinese fever vine. Extracts of the leaves of Paederia foetida boost testosterone levels of rats. Researchers at the Hari Singh Gour University in India write about this in the Journal of Men's Health. The testosterone-boosting effect is big enough to bring about a significant weight gain and to enhance sexual activity. You can read more about the study here: http://www.ergo-log.com/paederia-foetida-boosts-testosterone-level-anabolic-effect.html

300mg CISTANCHE DESERTICOLA EXTRACT: Cistanche or rou cong rong is an herbal tonic made from the root or leaves of a desert plant called Cistanche deserticola that has been part of traditional Chinese medicine for nearly 2000 years. The traditional belief is that cistanche is a yang tonic with counteracts the effects of aging, increases sexual potency, and improves mental function. Modern scientific studies have shown that cistanche increases the blood flow to the brain, sexual organs, and other areas of the body. The same studies show that taking cistanche can increase a person's energy level and even limit muscle damage from accidents and aging.

300mg GENTIANA LUTEA EXTRACT: Gentiana lutea extract improves your digestion while stimulating your appetite, encouraging greater food intake to fuel growing muscle mass.

102mg EPICATECHIN: Epicatechin has been the subject of several studies that have uncovered a host of physiological benefits, including:

Enhancing muscle growth and strength naturally via a novel pathway
Increasing nitric oxide production for improved vascularity, blood flow and endurance
Improving insulin sensitivity, regulating blood sugar levels and stimulating muscle protein synthesis
Lowering cholesterol levels due to its natural antioxidant properties
Improving brain and heart health

7.5mg BIOPERINE BLACK PEPPER EXTRACT: BioPerine is a patented extract obtained from black pepper fruits (Piper nigrum) standardized minimum to 95% Piperine.

BioPerine has been used as a bioavailability enhancer for over 20 years.

BioPerine may be co-administered with various nutrients to enhance their bioavailability in both human and animal.

In general, BioPerine was found to enhance absorption of nutrients by at least 30%.

Taste/Mixability/Dosing

The label suggests taking 3 pills pre or post workout and 3 pills later with or without meal. The label also suggests drinking 8-10 glasses of water daily while using this product. I used 3 pills post workout and 3 pills at lunch.

Effectiveness

During my 4 week run of Magnitropin, I noticed my muscles looking a little fuller and a slight strength increase; 5 pounds for ant extra 2-3 reps--kind of like a newbie using creatine for the first time, just without the bloat. Previous reviews of this mentioned an increase of appetite, but mine remained the same. I did, however have a lot more stamina in the gym, and a boosted libido. Overall, I'd say that this was a pretty decent run. My body weight remained the same, but I did look leaner.

Value

Amazon and Myokem sell Magnitropin for around 55 bucks, so it's a little on the pricey side. However, it worked pretty well, it's natural, and there were no negative sides associated with it, so I'd probably drop a double nickel and do another run.

Side Effects

None

Conclusion

Having been previously curious about the effectiveness of natural test boosters, I can say that my curiosity (at least for this product) has been satisfied. I'm curious to see what results an 8 week run would yield. I must add this: because it is product designed to boost testosterone, those under the age of, say, 30 or so may not feel the effects, but for old heads like me, I definitely recommend it.

I've noticed that VMI Sports has a strong presence at SR, and quite a loyal following, so after a little research, I decided to give their L-Carnitine 1500 Heat a try. I'm still recovering from back surgery that I had back in January, so my focus right now is staying as lean as possible until I can go heavy again. Thanks to VMI Sports for supporting the TROOPs. Introduction

Let's go.

Ingredient Profile

First and foremost, everything is fully disclosed; NO PROP BLENDS! L-Carnitine 1500 HEAT is a liquid L-Carnitine-based product with 31 servings. Here's what's in it:
L-Carnitine 500mg (aids with energy and weight loss)
Acetyl L-Carnitine 500mg The Acetyl L-Carnitine helps for converting fat into energy, but much less as a "primary benefit" than the regular L-Carnitine does. It's like saying that you can eat an orange for your fiber intake (as that is one benefit of eating oranges), but most people take it for the Vitamin C content, as that's a more prevalent benefit compared to other.
L-Carnitine L-Tartrate 500mg Improves muscle endurance and increases fat mobilization
Green Tea Leaf Extract 50mg Shown to assist in weight loss by regulating the hormones that can enhance thermogenesis
Gamma Butyrobetaine ethyl ester Chloride 25mg A laboratory-made compound that has been found to enhance the natural production of L-carnitine in humans.
Grains Of Paradise extract 15mg An herb that activates the brown adipose tissue, which causes fat to burn, consequently leading to weight loss in rats.
BioPerine 2.5mg Helps with nutrient absorption

Overall, the ingredient profile looks solid, but I think the Green Tea extract was underdosed.

Taste/Mixability/Dosing

I chose the orange pineapple flavor, and it tasted like neither. I can't really describe the taste--maybe children's cough syrup sprinkled with pepper...? It wasn't really unpleasant; just unusual. I never had to struggle getting it down. The label directions say to consume 1 tablespoon per day. I took a serving about 30 minutes prior to a workout. No mixing was required; it's a ready to drink liquid.

Effectiveness

My main issue with non-stimulant fat burners is that I don't really "feel" them working. However, from a thermogenesis standpoint, I could definitely feel this product working. There were times where I would start sweating even when sitting at my desk. During workouts, I would be drenched, more than usual. I also felt a little more focused during my workouts; not "locked in" per se, but more of a determination to get it in.

As far as weight loss is concerned, I only lost about two pounds, but I definitely looked quite a bit leaner, especially around my midsection. My abs had more definition and my waist looked a tad smaller. I'm not a numbers guy anyway; I tend to judge by how my clothes fit and what my reflection in the mirror says. I just wish that more Green Tea extract were included in the formula

Value

VMI Sports' website sells L-Carnitine Heat 1500 for $24.95. Elsewhere, it's $19.99, which for a 31 serving bottle equates to about 64 cents a serving. That's not bad at all. I'll definitely be buying another bottle or two. It's effective and it's not a budget buster.

Side Effects

Heavy sweating (which is a good thing with this type of product)

Conclusion

VMI Sports has quickly developed a following, and based on the results I achieved with L-Carnitine 1500 Heat, they definitely had the athlete in mind. I wasn't really expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. I think that one would probably have to run it for two months (which I plan to do) to see best results. Nevertheless, I'm pleased with what it did in 31 days. I wouldn't call it a home run; it was more of a two-run double with two outs.
