What Is It?

L-Alanyl L-Glutamine (a.k.a. Sustamine) is a combination of the two amino acids L-Glutamine and L-Alanine. Thisdipeptide ingredient combines the amino acids L-Alanine and L-Glutamine to helps the body rehydrate, replenish and recover from high intensity exercise.

Alanine is classified as a non-essential amino acids, while glutamine is considered "conditionally" essential.

Sustamine's unique bonded structure allow it to be rapidly absorbed by the body, meaning the amino acids get to the muscles faster.

What Does Sustamine Do?

Sustamine enhances water and electrolyte absorption in the intestines. It also stimulates glycogen synthesis, inhibits muscle protein breakdown and supports muscle protein synthesis. Sustamine has also been shown to enhance nutrient absorption by protecting the integrity of the gastrointestinal tract.

Clinical trials involving sustamine demonstrate it increases nitrogen retention and weight gain, while decreasing muscle and whole-body protein breakdown. This all results in better gains, decreased soreness and quicker recovery.

Often times, individuals will supplement with free form L-Glutamine to accelerate recovery, however, taken on its own, Glutamine has poor bioavailability in the body. It is taken up in the stomach before it has a chance to pass to the intenstines where it can then be absorbed and transported to your muscles.

Pairing glutamine with alanine enhances the bioavailability of glutamine and allows it to pass through the stomach intact and make it to the intestines where it can be absorbed and more effectively do it's job.

Benefits of L-Alanyl L-Glutamine

  • Faster Recovery
  • Improved Hydration
  • Increased Stamina
  • Supports Muscle Protein Synthesis
  • Inhibits Muscle Protein Breakdown
  • Increased Muscle Glutamine concentrations
  • Supports GI System Health

How Much?

Clinical trials using L-Alanyl L-Glutamine suggest the optimal dose ranges between 2-3g per day. As a means for accelerating recovery and decreasing delayed onset of muscle soreness (DOMS), it's generally recommended to consume your serving of it post workout.
