What Is It?

Eurycoma Longifolia is plant indigenous to South-Eastern Asian countries. It's one of the most popular herbal plants and goes by many names including, Longjack, Tongkat Ali, andMalaysian Ginseng. The two names most commonly seen on dietary supplement lables are Longjack and Eurycoma Longifolia.

What Does It Do?

The active compound in Tongkat Ali is believed by researchers to be the quassinoid compounds, a group of natural chemical compounds classified as diterpenoids and triterpenoid structures.

In the simplest terms, quassinoids are bitter principles found in plants that are in the Simaroubaceae family.Tongkat Ali contains several quassinoids that have been isolated and identified through research. The most promising of these quassinoids includeeurycomalactone, eurycomanol, eurycomanone, euryconolactone (A-C),eurycomanon.

Eurycomanone and eurycomanol are believed to be the main bioactive quassinoids of the lot. However, no current studies have exactly pinpointed which quassinoid is the one most responsible for the purported effects from Tongkat Ali supplementation. In spite of this fact, some manufacturers still explicity extract for quassinoids or glycopeptide fractions, bonded amino acids chains and like quassinoids.
