Is red dye bad for you? « : February 13, 2011, 08:13:50 PM »
This question is directed to mostly all supps with it if any but mostly directed to dark matter. It says it has red dye and ive been reading and different people say different things like it can cause cancer but then somewhere else it was not proven and it can cause stomach problems and such. I am not really worried about stomach problems or things like that but i am concerned about getting cancer because people say it is a carcinogen.

I am pretty sure it is okay, there was a red dye in the past (like 40 years ago) that was pulled from the market because it was harmful, but I doubt the current dyes are an issue.

I forgot where I read this but apparently FD&C Red 40 makes children hyperactive, or apparently is linked to ADD and ADHD. I am not sure of this fact, but I personally like to stay away from anything that was chemically made from nothing lol.

I know this is random.. but some red dyes/ colorings are actually all natural (was learning about this in class the other day). Believe it or not a lot or red coloring (Like in yogurt and strawberry icecream to name a few) Is extracted from a beetle native to mexico. It's labeled as carmine. ;) It is actually a lot healthier for you than red 40.

Yeah man, totally.
Not just restricted to children though - my girlfriend gets all hyper & mental when eats red dye, like strawberry jello.
Makes for an interesting night when she eats it at 10pm...

Now I try to only let her eat red jello if it's in shooters and we're heading out partying...  8)
