Bench

Old client/friend stopped by to check out the new digs, catch up, & catch a bench session.

Not the best benching I've done, but I did a no-no: I used one grip warming up, then for some reason changed my grip for the first set of 315. Moved my grip back to where it belonged, then smashed 315. Called it there and dropped the weight for some easy volume.

75x10, 65x10, 50x10
Titties were smoked gouda after this. Time for glycogen restoration.

Yesterday turned out to be quite the busy day.

-Had a drop in around 8am, 95% sold on signing up for powerlifting at Long Beach Power Co.
-9:30am client (Baby Slice's wife).
-Christmas shopping with significant other middle of the day.
-6pm rescheduled to 2pm
-3:30-5:30 clients

I finally got around to training myself around 5:45, so I threw this together and just went for it:

1) Pulsing DB Shoulder Press (1/2 rep + Full reps = 1 rep) x10
2) DB Lateral Raise x10
3) Band Lateral Raise x20
4) Arnold Press x12
5) Low Cable Face Pulls x20
6) Lying Rear Delt Fly x12-15

5 Rounds, 60sec rest between rounds.

Took at most 30 minutes. Shoulders thoroughly pumped and useless for the rest of the day.

Ate around 6:30, ready to coach by 7pm.

Closed the day out with a big group at 7:30pm.

Last meal of the day around 9:30pm

Maker's 46 in glass, calling it a night by 10:30pm

poo got busy since last post, quick update:

Chest & Back 12/6, then GD Bro Burger (local spot in LB)

12/7: worked with my girl on a photo shoot, pretty much all day
12/8: wedding + open bar, nuff said
12/9: Christmas plans with the lady (she's in Oregon for Christmas)

Been in the gym working, but not lifting. Wednesday fooed me up righteously, as my lats have just relaxed enough to where I full ROM. Some people geek out over legs, but I geek out over training the upper back. I've thrashed my upper back more times than I can remember, & I love every second of it.

Finally got my fatass back in the gym...to lift.

Bench:

Rolled with the close-grip today, simply because my lazy butt was too lazy to drop the rack to a more appropriate rack height. I worked in with a client, who is closer to 6'3" with a rack height of 17. At 5'9" my rack height is 14. Everything felt good nonetheless, 270 is not a weight I struggle with, no matter what bullpoo I do.

Cable Pushdowns: 5x10, heavy as possible
Grenade Cable Triceps Ext.: 4x20, don't let the grenades touch at any point.
DB Curls: run the rack (10-35, 35-10; 10 reps each)
Hammer Curls: 3x45x15

My wrists were the biggest hinderance on the day. They were still cranky from the Dirty 30 the week before, but more so from the super-close grip on the EZ bar. No bueno. I'm too swole for that.

If any of you have noticed, Japanese matches are typically longer than their US counterparts. Especially the main event matches. Huge emphasis on in-ring psychology, story-telling, etc. There's not much in the ways of faces vs heels (good guys vs bad guys), so they set that up within the match. One guy will wrestle "heel", while the other will wrestle "face". Sometimes they wrestle each other "fair". What is drastically different is the level of physicality. Chops leave chests battered and bruised, forearm shots will drop a wrestler. Even slaps have a little extra something to them. This match is one of my favorites for two specific spots (you'll know them when you see them). And of course, The Burning Hammer.

Didn't stretch or warm up, & I felt it. It was good, but garbage overall. Everything moved well, never felt heavy, just felt slow. I just need to make sure I stretch and warm up like I should, cuz I ain't 25 anymore...

Christmas 2018

It's been a second...

Between my last update and now, I maybe got a handful of workouts in. Most of it just staying-busy stuff, maybe a couple powerlifting-related workouts.

Highlight was 12/28-12/29, where I got three workouts in during a 12 hour period.

Started at 1pm 12/28, with an impromptu back (with some legs sprinkled in) workout with my buddy.

6pm a nice squat and deadlift session with a client.

7am a gnarly chest workout with a weekend group I train.

It almost became 4 workouts, with a planned shoulder day to finish off the stupid, but work took over & then I had to get ready for a camping trip.

My girl and I rode up to Big Sur for NYE/NY, 12/30/2018-1/1/2019. Beautiful place, great drive, but totally underestimated the length of the drive. BUT, we had a great time with good people.


Benched last night, just a handful of triples with 305 & not much else. Work dominates the schedule at times. Hit some back today, looking to get back on schedule next Monday.

Bench felt great today. Bar moved slow, but it goes with lifting at 90% or higher. Feeling confident about whatever 95% has in store for me.

I didn't as far into my accessories as I wanted. I got to a point to where all the warm bodies left the gym, & it got fooing cold real quick. Couple that with a nasty head rush, I decide to call it and go stuff my face with food.





Also, for whoever of you are fans of professional wrestling...

Wrestle Kingdom 13 has come and gone. Tanahashi is The Ace of Japan for a reason, & LIJ > everyone. Sucks that Kenny Omega AND Kushida have decided to leave NJPW. Both are arguably two of the best wrestlers alive, & for a company to loose two talents of that level in one fell swoop is disheartening. BUT, money talks and they've pretty much done all they've can on the island of Japan. Just hope the WWE doesn't let Vince McMahon be Vince McMahon & waste them.

Shoulders

I had roughly an hour to thrash my delts.

1. De Franco Lateral Raise Ladder
2. Pulsing DB OHP
3. TRX Face Pulls

5 Rounds: 21/18/15/12/9

The lateral raise ladder is an isometric hold with one hand, while the other hand performs the requisite number of reps.
"Pulsing" means 1/2 rep + Full rep = 1 rep
Face Pulls are self explanatory.


Took about 45 minutes to get through all five rounds. The pump is still real.

Yes, those are closed-fist punches towards the end there. Yes, that's sort of a no-no in professional wrestling. BUT, Japan does things different.
