Week 6, Day 5

Tuesday, 7/24/18

Pre: 1 scoop Full Spectrum Rx
Post: ABB Maxx Recovery

Last week's workout:

Tuesday, 7/17/18

Goblet Squats:
BWx20x2
40x15
90x10
120x8
120x6
120x5

Squats:
135x10
185x5x2
185x6

DB Side Lunges:
50x10
30x8

Squat:
45x20x2
135x8
185x6
225x5x3

DB Goblet Squat:
60x30 (slow negative on last rep to failure)

I went in for squats today, and felt really good until my third set with 225.  I felt something in my lower right trap area pull on my last rep, so I decided to call it early to avoid messing anything up.  I went ahead and did a set of goblet squats with a dumbbell to failure for good measure, but I didn't want to risk any more than that.  I'm feeling it now, unfortunately, but hopefully some massaging and rest will help.  If anybody has any advice on how to deal with it, it would be much appreciated.

On a side but slightly related note, does anybody have any ideas on how kratom affects muscle growth (e.g., protein synthesis, testosterone levels, etc..)?  I happen to be watching an episode of Hamilton's Pharmacopeia on kratom as I type this, and while it has never really been my thing (kind of irritates my stomach), I'm curious how much harm there would be in using it occasionally recreationally in place of alcohol.

Hopefully gonna go in tomorrow for a pull workout, depending on how my neck/back feels.  If it still feels off, I'll wait until Thursday to start week 7.

Also interested in the kratom effects. Been hearinf a lot about it on JRE and sounds like it could be 1) an effective painkiller that doesnít kill your microbiome and 2) a good substitute for alcohol & devilís substitute. Since it mimics an opioid Iíd imagine it slows the metabolism a bit?

AM forums are big on kratom.  Lots of logs there
Maybe you should TRAIN as hard as you HATE.

Thanks Seaver, I'll check those out.  Kratom irritates the poo out of my stomach, so it really isn't something I could personally use with any frequency, but I am curious nonetheless.

I had a messed up weekend.  Our oldest pet has been going through kidney failure, and we finally had to have him put down Sunday night.  He was just about to turn 13 years old, so he was actually older than our oldest kid.  We used to joke about how he was our first child.  I was up pretty late burying him Sunday night, and then couldn't really sleep afterwards and ended up getting like an hour and half's worth of sleep that night.  Yesterday after work, I just went home and crashed, and only got up to eat dinner and then went straight back to bed and got up at 5:00 this morning for work.  I've been dealing with the pulled trap still as well, so I will probably take today off from training, and then resume week 7 starting tomorrow.  I did manage to get a chest workout this past Friday, though, so I will log that now.  My trap was killing me Saturday morning, so I figure some rest is probably in order anyway.

Full Spectrum Rx:
The energy and focus with this is still going strong, and I've gotten some pretty good pumps as well, especially after some of the higher rep stuff.  I had a really good pump after the above chest workout that lasted until around the time I got home (roughly 15 minutes after leaving the gym).  I have one scoop left, which I am saving for my next deadlift day, either today or tomorrow.  It will most likely be tomorrow to make sure I don't aggravate my trap.  I have thoroughly enjoyed using this preworkout, and recommend it to anyone with a high enough stim tolerance looking for some outstanding energy and focus.

Arimidrol:
I'm currently on day 19 with this.  I've noticed a slight libido increase, as well as some increased vascularity that seems to come and go.  This past weekend was stressful, and my diet was screwed up big time Sunday (I only consumed roughly 400 cals all day prior to an omelet I had before bed), yet my muscles felt full like I had a slight pump.  I haven't noticed any joint pain, but I have been taking fish oil which should be helping in that respect.  Body composition-wise, I've gained 2.5 - 3 lbs since I've started (205-208), but my body fat percentage is still reading around 19% according to the electrical impedence machine at work.  It isn't very accurate, so I look for trends rather than the absolute values.  I do feel like I look leaner, though, and am starting to be able to see more definition in my chest, shoulders, and can see some obliques when I flex abs now, whereas I couldn't a few weeks ago.  I'm not sure how much Arimidrol has influenced any of this, if any, but it seems like it may be having a slight effect.

Thanks man, I appreciate it.  We got him as a kitten from my parents right before Katrina in 2005, and he was with us ever since.  He went through that ordeal with us, and was there during all the other ups and downs we've had through the years, so he really was a part of our family.

Keep up the good work bro!  Yeah, really sorry that you lost a member of your family (pet), its always tough!  My dog has started to show signs of kidney failure earlier this year, and he is only 5 so it bums me out.  Best thing to do is take out the aggression in the gym!

I'm sorry to hear that, Slaya.  I really hate to hear that for you man.  You're right, though, the gym is the perfect place to destroy any sort negativity!

Thanks htevans, I really appreciate it.

Also, on the subject of kratom, I decided to give it a try this weekend for the first time in a long time, but regretted it terribly the next day.  Apparently, the powder version is known for causing gastritis in some individuals, and while I don't know if that is what my symptoms were, the next day I had the worst stomach pains I can remember ever having.  The top area of my stomach was burning like crazy pretty much all day, and I thought I may have an ulcer until I looked up kratom side effects.  Making tea to eliminate the solids or eating beforehand may help to prevent the stomach irritation, but I've decided it's not really worthwhile for me.  It did help relieve the pain in my trap, though, the night I used it, so I can say it is useful for pain management in a pinch.  I experienced some slight euphoria and was in a pleasant mood throughout the night I used it as well, so it wasn't all bad.  However, I would rather deal with an alcohol hangover ora little guilt the next day than deal with those stomach effects, no question!

Week 7, Day 2

Tuesday, 7/31/18

Pre: 1 scoop Full Spectrum Rx
Post: ABB Maxx Recovery

Deadlift:
135x15
135x10
185x8
225x5
245x3
275x3
315x4 (failed 5th rep, got about 6" off the floor)
315x3x2
275x8
275x5

Wide Grip Lat Pulldown:
130x15
145x10
160x8
160x6 ---dropset--- 115x8

Cardio:
8 hill sprints: sprint up, walk down

Not a lot of volume today, but I was really happy with the deadlifts.  I've been wanting to incorporate some sort of cardio, so I decided to give the hill sprints a try.  We have a man-made hill next to the gulf about 2 mins from the gym, so I decided to give it a try.  I'm gonna start doing those a couple times a week, increasing the number of sprints as my conditioning improves.

Today was sadly the last of the Full Spectrum Rx, so I'm gonna take a short break from preworkouts while I decide on what to try next.  I'll get the review up later tonight.

After all those stimulants from Full Spectrum RX, taking a short break is necessary lol.
