White Rice vs. Brown Rice « : May 24, 2018, 03:24:31 PM »
Does anyone have a preference between these two types of rice or any other rice for that matter and why? I read that brown rice has anti-nutrients that bind to minerals like zinc, copper, iron, magnesium, niacin and calcium. Does anyone have any more insight on that? Does it matter? Thanks

Brown rice is only slightly better than white rice from a macro standpoint. Brown rice is a little lower glycemic, but it isn't that big of a deal. Brown rice is also linked to have levels of arsenic in it. Wild rice is by far the best rice from a macro standpoint, but it is expensive compared to other rice.

White rice just tastes better and is easy on the stomach. Thatís why I eat it
If you can't explain it using simple words, you don't understand it well enough.

Thanks JayT didn't know about the arsenic in brown rice at all. I agree Clipper83 I've been eating white rice in stead of brown for the taste and it seems to cook way better. Haven't tried wild rice yet. Next on the list.

I think all rice has arsenic in it. The amounts vary, so brown rice could have more than white rice.

Pre-soaking the rice gets rid of some of it. You can also cook it with too much water and strain the excess water afterwards.

Actually guys, the important thing is to buy a zogurushi rice cooker..... Cooks anything one press and walk away......
Ok and my thoughts are brown rice isn't that much healthier so I tend to buy white rice now.

Honestly love it.  They use to be tiger rice cookers now zojurushy.  I've had mine forever.  Even keeps rice warm for 30 hours plus.  If you let it go too long it gets kind of yucky though.  Now my wife just bought one of those pressure cooker crock pot things so I'm looking at trying that as well.  So far just meat which works great.
Sorry for the off topic food gadgets.......

Black rice is pretty awesome. I haven't had it in a while but after reading this post I just told my wife I think it's time to bring it back out. I didn't know how I'd like the taste but I actually liked it alot. Plus I hear that it is very healthy for you as far as rice goes. I need to start eating more quinoa also. White rice is the king in my household but I do like a variety with my grains.

Generally, white and brown have similar Macros.  White rice is essentially the brown with the outer layers "peeled" off, these outer layers have most of the fiber and micronutrients BUT.  The out layer is considered Anti-Nutrient because the fiber it has is of Phytate content which reducing the bioavailability of the nutrients and makes it harder for your body to absorb nutrients while trying to digest this fiber, Most people will be gassy, bloated, congested with Diarrhea with Brown rice.
All Rice is arsenic but brown rice is significantly higher again when tested its this outer layer of brown Rice that makes it a whole lot more arsenic.

So this brown fibrous layer of brown rice that everyone thought  over the years to be better and healthier is actually the main reason why Brown is the lesser of the 2 options.
Stick with Wild Rice, or White that is not overly Enriched

Guys, I can see that most people are leaning towards white rice and I also think that brown is only good for making salad and I think that many people will be interested to look and read the excellent cookware reviews. Believe me, it helps a lot to buy better cooking and rice products for less money.
