Biking to gym before weight training « : August 15, 2013, 07:59:56 AM »
Hi all,

I am thinking of cycling to the gym instead of using my car on a regular basis. What I would like to know is would this have a catabolic effect on the muscles whilst I am weight training? Would it stall my progress?

I usually perform 30 minutes on the cross trainer after every session to burn fat anyway and I know it's alway better to perform cardio after. I just need an expert opinion.

Any thoughts?

Biking is always better then using your car, its just healthier and a good dose of cardio, instead of wasting it on a treadmill. But the thing is, depends how you bike, the speed and the resistance you might take energy out of the tank and not hit your workout 100%. Keep that in mind, but I wish more people would bike then use their car, maybe there would be less obesity in this world

Agreed.
Most problems in lifting can be solved by either pulling harder, or pushing harder.

That's actually a great idea, I used to run to the gym little less than a mile.

I don't think you need to be worried about slowed progress at all. This is a great way to get in your cardio and will give you a great boost to your work outs. The only thing I would watch for is how far and long of a bike ride it is for you, what's the distance?
