Best time for taking L-Glutamine « : October 19, 2012, 03:54:56 AM »
Hi gang,

Is it best to take L-glutamine after workouts with protein shake or perhaps on an empty stomach by waiting about 20 minutes after taking it to drink my protein shake?

After workouts. It helps with recovery which is important for muscle growth. Its also ok on off days to to optimize recovery along with enough sleep.
Squat=325 for 3 reps (Dec. 14,2012)
Deadlift= 410 for 4 reps(Nov. 17, 2012)
Bench= 285 for 1 rep(Dec. 17,2012)
Power clean and press= 205 w/ 3 reps

Depending how much you have on hand and what your goals are, I'd use it liberally.
I put 5g in my water first thing in the morning while I do cardio so help save muscle catabolism, 10g in my intra-workout drinks and another 10g in my post-workout shake.

Glutamine gets a lot of flack for not working. Most say it gets sucked up by the gut and never makes it to the working muscles. I on the other hand love it. I usually throw in 10g somewhere during or post workout. I can always tell a difference when I have it in my pwo shake. Good stuff.

I'm not convinced there is a "best" time to take it.  It works really good for me as well, and I generally take it post workout and before bed.  Check out Gluta-lyn by Sci Fit, its one of my favorite supps I've ever taken

When I took Glutamine I took it intra workout and prebed, as well as pre/post workout. I didn't notice any different results with taking it either way.. So which ever way fits your schedule best, as it should yield the same end results.

I take a scoop around 10am with a whey shake, then another one with my post-workout shake. I used to mix it up in water and have it during my workout, but drinking water with L-Glutamine made me thirsty and prone to over-drinking and feeling bloated (not good when doing certain exercises - squats, deads, rows etc) so I changed to putting it in my post-workout shake. Doesnt seem to affect its performance, it helps me a lot in recovery.

I however really like it. I usually toss in 10g somewhere during or publish exercise. I can always tell a distinction when I have it in my pwo tremble. Nutrients.

I haven't noticed much from glutamine unless I dose it very high (20-25g per day). That being said, pre or post workout are probably the best times to take it
