Supplement store employment: Is it as bad as people say? « : September 05, 2011, 09:13:20 PM »
Is working at a supplement store (Vitamin world / Shoppe, GNC, etc.) really as bad as some would have you believe?? I'm applying to employers to find a job and one of them was Vitamin World. There's a lot of talk about how bad they are with scripts, etc. This guy in particular seems like he has an axe to grind, or is that just the ugly truth?

On the other hand, the vitamin world website says it's the 5 time winner of the #1 store brand in customer satisfaction accroding to consumer lab user survey (go to and look near the bottom the bottom of the page). However, good supplement quality doesn't mean they have good sales practices (although it is a positive indicator).

Anyway, I'd appreciate peoples' opinions (with sources if possible (like consumer reports)), especially from anyone with experience or inside information.

Thanks! I look forward to reading what people have to say.

I worked at GNC for a while, and it wasn't that bad. They do push you to sell certain products by putting spiff's on them to make some extra money. But I enjoyed working there and learning about the diff products. I don't know about Vitamin world, but getting the employee discounts at GNC made it worth while.
It only gets harder from here!

Just donít think about that, think about your resume. It is what really important. But if you arenít sure about your future job position, it would be better to ask a specialist to write the resume for you. And it would be done well, then everything is fine and you will receive the job. Believe me, everything really depends on the resume. See explanation at

Worked at Vitamin World, It was not bad at all. Yeah they try to teach you a "script" but really it's just sales steps to take. I didn't think it was bad at all tbh. Definitely gained a lot of knowledge from working there,
