Nootropic supplements come in many different varieties and Genius Joy is an example of what happens when you instead focus on one element of the equation.

See a nootropic supplement is more of an umbrella term for a dietary supplement that helps improve your brain health in some way. This spans a spectrum including increased energy, increased focus, enhancing mood, and general cognition.

You can see this as their line up spans this spectrum, with inclusions such as genius consciousness and the like. That leaves a different question then, as we’re more interested in if it’s worth going for something specific or instead choosing a more well-rounded option?

Well it’s best to rip a band-aid off quickly, so we won’t beat around the bush; we do not recommend genius joy. This is for a couple of reasons that we’ll get into later but to condense our thoughts down, you’re just better off going for a more premium brand such as Hunter Focus. Not only will you get more benefits to mood regulation and concentration, but you’ll still get a very similar level of stress relief as well as a reduction to anxiety and mood swings.

Now let’s get into the review proper.

Genius Joy Ingredients Breakdown

Vitamin B1 1.5mg

Also known as Thiamin, Vitamin B1 plays a critical role in energy metabolism as well as the growth development and function of cells. It’s highly available in many different food groups and the low recommended daily intake (which maxes out at 1.4) make this a very uncommon deficiency.

As much as we can understand the use of such a crucial vitamin for general health, we couldn’t find any clinical trials to test for its use as a nootropic supplement. Our best guess is that it’s a relatively cheap way to bulk out your ingredients list and when it really comes down to it, it’s not a bad thing that it’s included, we’re just unsure if it’s a terribly useful thing.

VitaminB2 1.7mg

Riboflavin is the secret identity of vitamin B2, and its role in the body is that it is a major component of two major coenzymes (think of a coenzyme as a car battery and the enzyme as the engine. The coenzyme is the catalyst to kickstart the enzyme) which both play essential roles in energy production, similarly to B1, but interestingly also has sway in the metabolism of fats, drugs and steroids.

There seems to be a bit of a pattern forming as once again vitamin B2 is essential to brain health but is both plentiful in food easily absorbed by the body, so including it to aid against deficiency seems unwise. Once again we also found no clinical trials testing B2 for it’s use in a nootropic supplement so again, it’s a bit of a meh inclusion. Nothing particularly wrong with it per se but nothing particularly good about it either.

Vitamin B3 20mg

As well as answering to Niacin on the weekends, vitamin B3 gets converted into another very important coenzyme, which is in fact the most used coenzyme found within the body. As you can imagine this makes vitamin B3 an undeniably important vitamin for general health, though we’ve established a bit of a pattern here haven’t we?

Unfortunately that pattern continues as once again, there was much discussion revolving around how important B3 is but none testing it’s use in a nootropic supplement so we’re just going to move quickly on.

Vitamin B6 2mg

Definitely not running out of ways to introduce the alternative names, Vitamin B6 is known to their close friends as Pyridoxine. As is seemingly the norm with B vitamins, B6 is converted into coenzymes for the body and is considered the most versatile of the group.

This extends into its use as a nootropic, as finally we have our first clinically backed ingredient. We found a systematic review that was interestingly looking at the potential for different nutrients and dietary supplements to improve cognitive performance in Esports specifically, which ofcourse require a high degree of focus, fast reaction times and the ability to both plan ahead and predict your opponent.

There were interesting observations made, as it seemed the consumption of vitamin B6 correlates with better neuro-cognitive test results[1].

We’re definitely happy to see something scientifically backed, and we’re not surprised it was vitamin B6 as it’s quite a common choice for many of the highest quality nootropic supplements.

Vitamin B12 6mcg

Known only as Vitamin B12, this essential vitamin plays a crucial role in the development and function of the central nervous system, healthy red blood cell formation and DNA synthesis.

Similarly to its half cousin b6, vitamin B12 is a common choice for many of the best nootropic supplements available today, and with good reason. The same study we found supporting B6 has various instances of supporting evidence for B12 too, with a higher consumption of vitamin B12 being correlated with better psychomotor speed [1]

Vitamin D 25mcg

Known as the sun vitamin, vitamin D is present in very few foods but instead is synthesised the ultraviolet rays from the sun strike the skin. This makes sense from an evolutionary stand point as we’re supposed to spend pretty much 100% of the time outdoors, but in the modern era vitamin D deficiency is actually extremely common.

The impact of this deficiency is quite crippling, as it’s linked closly with depression. We found a review that observed that all the studies showed that depressed subjects had lower levels of vitamin D, and that those with the lowest vitamin D levels had the greatest risk of depression [2].

This is why basically every nootropic supplement will come with a decent helping of Vitamin D, as despite the fact it’s not really known to improve mood swings on it’s own, due to the prevalence of deficiency it essentially has that effect, supporting mood regulation which in turn will improve productivity, focus and help provide some mental clarity amongst the depression induced brain fog.

Adomix 1,000mg

S-Adenosyl-L-Methionine is a bit of a controversial pick in our eyes and you’ll see why we think that. On the surface it sounds like a shoo in for nootropics as the research shows in has positive effects on depression, but the problem is in how these tests were conducted, as the more positive results that are boasted about ad nauseam are from clinical trials that injected Admonix instead.

This would ofcourse change the impact it had when compared to taking it as a dietary supplement and has left quite the sour taste in our mouths.

Not all the tests were conducted in this way however, though there are further issues as in the 40 studies completed, they all only lasted a few weeks, included small samples sizes and overall were not of the highest quality when it comes to scientific testing.

It’s a shame to say this but a substantial amount of the accumulative mass is used up by this one ingredient and it’s really not scientifically valid. They could have included something like Acetyl-L-Carnitine and still have room left over to maybe add some Bacopa, so we’re really not on board with this one.

N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine 350mg

One of the most common things nootropic supplements include are what’s known as an amino acid. These are the building blocks of protein, and interestingly as more research comes out the importance of these amino acids are becoming more and more known.

They’re a lesser known but still essential part of our diets. For example L-Tyrosine is an essential component for the production of several important brain chemicals that are called neurotransmitters, including dopamine. This stimulates dopamine production and in turn helps nerve cells communicate and influences mood.

In fact L-tyrosine has been directly observed to prevent a decline in cognitive function triggered as a response to physical stress [3]. This indicates that by supplementing L-Tyrosine you’ll experience mood support, stress management and increased focus when under stress. An excellent inclusion for this nootropic supplement.

Rhodiola5plus 300mg

With a long history of use in traditional medicine, Rhodiola rosea is a plant that grows in the colder regions within Europe and Asia. It’s considered an adaptogen, which are a class of natural substances that are believed to stimulate the body’s resistance to physical, environmental, and emotional stressors.

A lot of the time with these traditional medicines their effectiveness is quite overstated, but sometimes you find ingredients in which the idea that there’s no smoke without a fire rings true, and thankfully Rhodiola rosea is one such ingredient.

In clinical studies Rhodiola was found to have a notable anti fatigue effect that increased mental performance, particularly the ability to concentrate [4]. This same review found another trial that showed a significant improvement in prolonged or chronic fatigue symptoms over an 8 week period.

A strong choice and it’s well dosed, following the scientific literature quite flawlessly with this excellent inclusion.

Red Panax Ginseng 250mg

This Asian root is a surprisingly versatile ingredient, finding its way in everything from nootropics to testosterone boosters, but does the science match up with these uses?

Well though we can’t speak for it’s efficacy as a testosterone booster, it’s looking good as a nootropic supplement. We found a review of clinical trials that looked at ginseng and found it had numerous positive behavioural effects, such as an improved declarative memory, enhanced working memory, and an improvement to mental arithmetic performance [5].

That all sounds great but the issue is that these results were found by a combination of red panax ginseng and bacopa, another highly common ingredient that is surprisingly not included here.

One thing that is very clear is that Genius joy is more so trying to offer stress management and anxiety relief than more of an all-rounder approach, and this does make sense giving they have a few varying nootropic supplements that each have their own specialisation.

Griffonia Simplicifolia 100mg

If you’ve ever done research yourself into nootropic supplements they you may have come across an ingredient known as 5htp, and that’s what we’re dealing with here as Griffonia Simplicifolia is simply the source of 5htp used here.

5htp has many uses and is actually a stellar choice for this formula in particular. We found a review looking at many different trials that had some very interesting observations. For example, 5htp is shown to increase rapid eye movement sleep, helping for people to stay rested which will work fantastically as stress relief as cortisol is reduced by better quality sleep [6].

There is also some antidepressant activity, as well as relief from anxiety. This is because of 5-htp’s relationship with serotonin, which is the bodies most feel good molecule, earning 5htp the reputation of being a natural serotonin mood booster.

What’s interesting for us is that 5-htp is actually more commonly used for it’s appetite suppressant effects within weight loss supplements, and many of us in the office were quite surprised to find it’s actually got some research backing as a nootropic as well.

Coffee Extract 100mg

Without coffee the world would likely spin a lot slower, or perhaps that would just be our perception of the world. Caffeine is the worlds most commonly taken drug and it’s no surprise why – we feel more alert, we have more energy and it even provides some mood enhancement and greater motivation. Caffeine essentially serves to provide temporary relief from brain fog.

Being such a big part of different cultures the world over, it seems a bit of a forgone conclusion to find the research that backs these claims. That being said we are of course professionals and will see our jobs through thoroughly.

A study we found concluded that, besides influencing cognitive performance, caffeine increases our perception of alertness and wakefulness [7], meaning we feel we have increased energy but it’s simply a trick. That being said we can see through the power of placebo the very power our brains perception of events can have over our abilities both cognitive and physical.

L-Theanine 100mg

Finally we have another amino acid with L-Theanine, that is most commonly found within green tea and has been shown to affect brain functions by relieving stress, improving mood and maintaining normal sleep.

We found a study that show reaction times were reduced significantly in the group supplementing L-theanine when compared to placebo. It was also found that the questions were answered more quickly and with less mistakes in the working memory tests, showing that even after just a single dose L-Theanine will improve working memory [8].

The dosage here is a little bit less, we’d have preferred to see around 200mg as this is where the positive results have been found in clinical testing.

Verdict – Will Genius Joy help with mood swings?

Now we know how it all works with Genius Joy, and there’s a bit of a mixed bag here. Some of the ingredients are staples in the industry and are masterfully chosen and then others leave us thinking why they’d even bother including it.

We will say this: at the price point it’s at, taking genius joy is a fine choice for those looking specifically for stress relief and mood support, but we still don’t see how we can recommend someone go spent $59 to help with difficulties like this when you could actually experience better mood support and better stress relief as well as increased concentration, improved memory, improved focus and everything else by spending $90 on Hunter Focus.

They share some ingredients but Hunter Focus only takes the best of what genius joy has to offer and instead pairs it with a clever, transparent formula of researched backed natural ingredients. Customer Genius Joy Reviews

When it comes to online customer reviews, it’s important to approach them with the knowledge that companies and brands are very much incentivised to flood their pages with 1000’s of fake positive reviews as this bolsters sales, is very easy to do, is very cheap to do and most importantly, is actually impossible to prove.

There are particular signs to look out for however, such as the number of reviews themselves. You can check when a product was first available from and then see how many reviews it has and it may be a believable amount, but the fact is people very rarely leave positive reviews unless they’re incentivised to do so, so when a product has been available for 6 years and has nearly 10,000 reviews with 67% of them being 5 stars, it’s just a little bit suspicious.

Looking through the reviews of Genius Joy on Amazon and it seems like a lot of people are beyond thrilled to have experienced this product, but you keep going and some critiques pop up, with people claiming it’s too expensive, gives the GI issues and even one person saying their mood regulation worsened on taking this nootropic.

With a fully natural ingredients list, Genius Joy should be safe for consumption for most of us although please bare in mind it has not been tested or approved by the FDA

Any Side Effects?

Caffeine is known to cause anxiety, especially in people who are quite sensitive to it but it’s inclusion as the one stimulant in a sea of anxiety relief should help to stave off the worst of these effects. Other than that we heard people complain of GI issues, but experienced none of these ourselves.
