UK-based Grenade was started by Alan and Juliet Barratt in 2009.
The company’s head office is in Solihull, England. However, the company also has a US headquarters in Cranston, Rhode Island.
The founders’ say their mission with Grenade is to create “products that people would actively seek out and remember”. According to ‘The Grenade Story’ on the brand website, the company name comes from when a friend of the couple tried their first fat burner and called it “explosive, like a grenade”.
As one of the UK’s fastest-growing companies, Grenade was featured in the Sunday Times’ Fast Track Top 100 four times in a row from 2014 to 2017. The brand now boasts customers in over 80 countries. In 2014, Grovepoint Capital (a London-based private equity firm) bought a controlling stake in Grenade for £35 million.
Several Grenade products have been tested for banned substances by Informed-Sport – a program recognized all over the world. Having proven drug-free, these supplements are now certified “trusted by sport”.
The brand has won several awards in its relatively short lifespan. This includes the Sports Nutrition Industry’s “Fat Burner of the Year 2012” for Thermo Detonator, and "Pre-Workout of the Year 2012" for 50 Caliber.
But perhaps its most prestigious award was the win for “European Diet & Weight Management Product of the Year 2013” at the Fibo Power fitness expo in Germany. Bodybuilding.com also named Grenade “Supplement Company of the Month” for March 2016.
The company’s original fat burner, Thermo Detonator, has been a big seller since it first hit the market in 2009. Its Carb Killa high-protein bars also have a reputation as the “best-tasting” products of their kind. Meanwhile, Hydra 6 – a blend of fast-acting and slow-release protein – has also proven popular.
Grenade’s sponsored athletes include – or have included - pro muscle model Jamie Alderton, and natural bodybuilding champion Shane Raymond.
