Garden of Life was founded in 2000 by Jordan S. Rubin.
The company’s name derives from both its location in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and its dedication to organic, natural ingredients.
The Garden of Life website is a mine of information on its sourcing and testing procedures, as well as its policy of creating organic and non-GMO products.
The Testing section of the company’s About page declares that it constantly tests its products “for potency, safety and contaminants”. This helps the people behind the brand offer “the safest and most effective” results.
It goes on to say that its testing procedures comply with regulations set out by several health organizations. These include – but are not limited to - the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Union (EU), the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the state of California’s “Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act” (or Proposition 65).
Garden of Life also has a number of certifications. For example, its website carries the USDA Organic stamp. This confirm the brand’s 100% natural products are grown without pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, genetically-modified organisms (GMO), ionizing radiation, or sewage sludge.
The company also undergoes regular testing from the Non-GMO Project to ensure all ingredients are produced in line with “best practices for GMO avoidance”. As a result, Garden of Life is “Non-GMO Project Verified”.
It is also Certified Vegan by Vegan Action and Certified Gluten-Free by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF). Several products have also been tested for banned substances by Informed-Choice – and Garden of Life is now certified “trusted by sport”.
Garden of Life says its mission is to “empower extraordinary health”. To help achieve this, it says “traceability is key”. In other words, those at the company know the exact source of every ingredient. In addition, third-party inspections by the likes of USDA Organic and the Non-GMO Project ensure the brand’s products retain their high quality.
The Garden of Life product range includes supplements that promote brain health (for children and adults), digestion, and immune support. The range also includes greens, pre-natal support, joint-health products and organic herbals, among many others.
