Overview: Another home run product that I have discovered recently. I know a lot of people on this site aren’t to high and mighty on
protein bars, however I have always used them and found them to be a easy, convenient snack for me throughout the day with my busy and sometimes hectic schedule. These particular bars caught my eye one day, so I decided to give them a shot, and I was not let down one bit.
Ingredient Profile(9/10): The one thing that really stuck out to me about these
protein bars was the very impressive nutrient profile to it. First off, these are not like your typical
protein bars in that they not chocolate based or “candy bar like” at all. They pack and impressive 30 grams of protein per bar featuring whey, milk, and casein proteins, no soy! Which is a big thumbs up for me, I grew pretty tiresome of seeing soy in every
protein bar I bought. Some might be alarmed by the fat content in these bars: anywhere from 16-20 grams per bar dependent on flavor, but wait a second…the source of fats in these are all “good” fats: CLA, Sesamin, almond butter, and sunflower butter. So another positive for me there. The carb sources are also superb in this bar, they are all low glycemic carbs (hence the name “Zero Impact”) whole grain or rolled oats, sweet potato and pumpkin are used as carb sources as well as low DE (dextrose equivalent) sugars to keep in line with the low GI theme. They do contain about 400 calories per bar, so I would really recommend these only if you are bulking or want a
meal replacement on a cut or recomp. Overall, very impressed with the make-up of these bars.
Taste: For this section I have decided to divide it up between the two flavors I tried since I had very different experiences with each:
Peanut Butter & Jelly(8.5/10): This bar actually tasted very good to me. I love PB&J sandwiches, and usually have one for breakfast, so these were a treat to have as a mid day or afternoon snack. Did taste a bit chalky, but were actually pretty moist and chewable. Also as our esteemed SR member Raptor has mentioned, these do not melt in the sun and or/heat due to it’s make up of not being candy bar based. Whenever I buy these again it will most certainly be in this flavor.
Pumpkin Supreme(2/10): These to me tasted like sweetened death, just awful and dreadful. I love me some pumpkin pie during the holiday season, and even pumpkin cookies for Halloween, but I don’t know what it was about these, but they tasted like straight up doo-doo to me. Nothing like a pumpkin pie or a pumpkin cookie at all. I gave it a two only because it’s not the worst tasting
protein bar I have ever had (that distinction goes to
MuscleTech’s Nitrotech Strawberry Shortcake bar) but it’s a solid second place. Even though I love these bars, you couldn’t give me a box of these for free in this flavor.
Effectiveness(9/10): I always find this category hard to gauge in a
protein bar, it’s like rating taste in pills, but it still matters in the whole scope of things. Obviously with these being very nutrient/calorie/macro dense they will fill you up. That is the first property I look for in a
protein bar, so it gets a check mark there. The second thing I look for is if it gives me a “pick me up” or a solid source of energy, and I would have to say these also excelled in that area. What I liked about these also is I could break these in half and have one half for a morning snack, and the other half in the afternoon, almost similar to splitting a serving of a
weight gainer powder.
Value(7.5/10): The only real drawback I would say to these is they do run a somewhat healthy price tag. A box of 12 of these will run you about $25, or roughly $2.08 per bar. It’s kind of a steep price to pay, but for what all they offer, I say these are worth the extra money to throw down on.
Conclusion: The Zero Impact bar is the most complete and effective
protein bar that I have tried to date, and is an ideal snack and/or
meal replacement that can benefit anyone regardless of their fitness goals, though I would lean more as to saying these are better for you bulkers or people who have trouble getting enough calories/macros and can’t afford to hawk around a shaker cup for a gainer shake. But overall a very solid product, and they get my seal of approval and thumbs up. I recommend this product.
