Overall: 9 | Effectiveness: 9 | Value: 8
Recommended Overall: (9/10)
This is a product that I have used for years as an easy meal, as an on the go snack, and as a more healthful alternative to other unhealthy candy bars and desserts. I like this product because of all of these reasons, plus the fact that it comes in a number of different flavors including, chocolate chip cookie dough, peanut butter cookie dough, Apple Crisp, Chocolate Graham Cracker, Peanut Butter Pretzel, Super Cookie Crunch (my favorite), sweet and salty, and there may be other that I havent tried.

Nutrition/Effectiveness: (9/10)
I also give the nutrition/effectiveness an almost perfect score because of the vast range of nutrients, and the fact that many have have the daily value. The reason I gave it a 9 instead of a 10 is that there is a little too much fat and carbs, but hey nobody's perfect right? Here is the nutrition facts taken off the internet:
Nutrition Facts

Also keep in mind that the nutrition facts above are for a specific flavor, but they are very similar. One difference is that the protein content is actually as high as 32 grams per bar (Super Cookie Crunch).

Taste: (10/10)
The reason I am giving taste a 10 is because of the diversity of flavors that Met-Rx offers. I mean come on I listed quite a few, I DARE you to say you wouldnt give at LEAST 1 flavor a 10 and I cant say I would give any of them less than a 7. So in this contest diversity wins!

Value: (8/10)
Im giving value an 8 because there ARE cheaper out there. This product is all around pretty good nutrient and taste-wise, but this bar will run you 3-5 bucks apiece at a gas station or fitness club. There are, however, ways around it. For example I buy mine at Wally world for less than 7 bucks for a box of 4 bars. 1.75 is a heck of a lot cheaper than even 3 dollars individually.
Pros:
Cons:
  • Great With Milk!
  • Great Taste
  • Convenient
  • Protein
  • Too Expensive

NOT Recommended Met-Rx Big 100 meal replacement bars are really the only brand sold at various locations other than GNC, vitamin stores, etc. I see these at gas stations, coffee shops so the convenience is a plus and I do always go for ones with 30+ grams of protein, but these are loaded with sugar and have nearly half a days worth of saturated fat. For being "nutrition" bars I think they could be better. Taste is good, but I'd only get if it truly was a last resort for protein.

I honestly thought it tasted alright. When I saw the back label, it really turned me away from buying another one.

I agree. They tasted pretty good and worked well for a meal replacement, but they were loaded with either sugar or sugar alcohols and other junk.

Haven't bought one since.

Maybe Recommended Theres a lot of stuff in this bar besides a *** ton of protein and i feel that it gets in the way. On the other side though it is a good meal replacement if you can get the whole thing down. Doesnt leave you hungry afterwards.

NOT Recommended OH man. I seriously used to LIVE on these things. They taste sooo good. Back when I didn't know better, I thought I was helping my body by eating these.

Then I learned something about nutrition.

I assume anyone who is serious about being in shape doesn't need to know this, so I am writing for the newbies who think like I used to.

This is a candy bar. Seriously. There's 25g of sugar - more sugar than freaking protein! That's insane to me. Stay clear of this.

Get your facts straight. I just clicked on the AllStarHealth link and the first flavor that popped up had 26g sugar and 31g protein. While that is way too much sugar for my liking, you are misleading people.

Recommended I picked up a bunch of these bars the other day at my local grocery store because they were out of my usual Clif Builders Bars.

I was a little skeptical at first because I have had other protein bars that were not good at all, not naming any names. Anyway, I am reviewing the Crispy Apple Pie.

To start off, the taste is excellent. I would say it tastes almost truly like apple pie, delicious. I prefer the Clif bars because they are all natural, but the ingredients on this bar are actually not that bad. The fruit portion is real fruit, the protein is whey based with a whopping 31g of protein/bar. There is also a yogurt coating on the bottom of the bar made with skim milk and yogurt cultures.

The price per individual bar is a little pricy if you buy them individually. I paid $2.50 a bar, I'm sure you can find them cheaper but to me this seems a little high.

I would have to say that Met RX has done a great job with this bar. It is tasty, has a great ingredient profile (with the exception of the corn syrup), and is loaded with protein.

A great bar at a somewhat decent price. The taste is dead on delicious. I would definitely recommend this to others. I will be trying the chocolate/chocolate chunk later today hoping that it is just as good as the apple pie.

Recommended Absolutely LOVE these bars. Been eating them now for about five years (I think), hard to remember. and I must say they are great. Real good if you are using them as a meal-replacement due to their high amount of calories. They hit the spot if youre using the for a MR. They taste wonderful, even my mom thinks they are great and she is someone who I never thought would like a frikkin protein bar, she usually likes candy and cakes and that kinda stuff. These bars are real good: the super cookie crunch is delicous, as is the crispy apple pie, those two are my favorite. The Sweet & Salty, and peanut butter pretzel are real good too. Overall I cannot find anything I dislike about these bars, if you haven't, give em a try you wont be disappointed.

Maybe Recommended I was able to get a bunch of these the other day at GNC and they were marked down really cheap. I got them for 50 cents a piece. That is the only reason I gave it a 10 for value. I thought I would give them a try. I was not real crazy about the flavor they had but they were the only ones they had marked down. The flavor they had was peanut butter caramel crunch. I thought they tasted a little to dry and caulky for me. For a meal replacement bar they are not to bad. I think if I could have gotten a different flavor I wouild have liked them a lot better. If your trying to cut or loose weight I would not recommened these because of whats all in them. Not sure if I would ever get them again unless I was able to get a different flavor. They are not the greatest protein bar I have had but they were not the worst either.

NOT Recommended This is quite possibly one of the worst bars I've come across with it's mile long ingredients list and either tons of sugar or sugar alcohols. Those are basically my two biggest gripes with this. It's either got so many different kinds of sugars from high fructose corn syrup to crystalline fructose that it's hard to keep track of, or the sugar alcohols really, really mess up digestion for the day.

Honestly, though, I can see why a lot of people like these bars because they are packed down with protein like crazy. Which, for the convenience of protein, I suppose this wouldn't be too bad of a bar if I was needing protein at that particular moment. But, for the protein, I just can't stomach the awful taste and the stomach pains that come soon after. Even when I drink about 20 oz of water, I still get stomach pains.

I personally won't be buying these again as I would prefer to just go hungry than ingest something that makes me feel ill. And the price isn't even worth the calories(which is why would buy something that's heavily caloric) at averaging 3-5 dollars.

There are other little tiny gripes, but I can forgive those.

Cons:

Nice heads up Soul.

I find the best bars by far are the 2:1 bars. They recently changed the formula which makes me a bit upset, but is still the best bar. Great taste and profile. Problem I find with many bars is they have ~15g of fat and too many sugars.

blade, gnc sells a bar called protein crunch or something like that. it has really cheesy looking packaging, but it's 230cals, 26g protein, 7g carbs, 5g fat. I always grab one at work since there's barely any soy in them either. Main protein is calcium caseinate

I agree soul brotha!!! Too much garbage in these! I found them to taste pretty well but in this lifestyle, taste is not the main concern. I used to use these as emergency protein meals at work and i just gave up on them. They are pretty worthless. The high amount of protein is the only pro with this bar IMO as well.

Thanks for the reps and replies, guys!

Rmiles, prices range in different states my man. Anyway, when I'm on the go and I need something to hold me off--energy wise--protein is one of the things I look for, but not the only thing. Complex carbs, good fats, low glycemic sugars if there are sugars, and some protein. Though, you do bring up a good point if I really needed 400 calories and 32 grams of protein, 3 dollars ain't too bad really... just sucks I just have other problems with this bar.

I hear ya on that, manimal. Though, I've become good friends with cinnamon, cayenne, garlic, and stevia for flavors. So, it ain't all too bad.

Recommended These bars are a pretty nice meal replacement. Although i'd probably prefer them to have less fat and sugar, it has a decent amount of protein which helps with recovery obviously. These bars are a good choice if you're hungry and need some protein but not in the mood for a big meal. The price is alright, but could be a little cheaper. Overall a decent product. I buy these often. Oh and they have quite a few different tastes, and some microwavable brownie kinds too, which are filled with sugar and fat but they are awesome. LOL

Walmart sells this 5ct box for little under $7. A very good meal replacement other than the fat content. They even have a little Glutamine in them. The sugar is to be expacted as thats a big downfall on most bars.

Recommended These bars taste great. For me it is like eating a Snickers. If you gave me a choice, I would pick one of these. They are a big high on sugar, so probably not great to eat so many. But overall they are the best I have tried. And I have tried practically all.
