Great Tasting, Cool Looking, High Pricing

—-Introduction—-
I recently went to the 2017 Olympia, and of course, all of the cool kinds were at the Ghost booth. I myself decided to stop by, and sample some of their sour black cherry legend. While there, I noticed that they were running a sale on all of their products. With it being a good sale, I decided to pick up a few things. Along with a tub of Amino and 2 tubs of Size, I decided to pick up a tub of their Whey. Ghost is known for having some very interesting flavors on their products. Ranging from Warheads Watermelon, to Cereal Milk. They only had 2 options there, one was Peanut Butter Cereal Milk, and the other was the Blueberry Toaster Pastry. With pop tarts in mind, I grabbed the blueberry one and went on my way. I had a pretty good experience with that tub, which prompted to to buy another tub of their Cereal Milk whey.
—-Ingredient Profile—-
It’s a blend of concentrate, isolate, and hydrolyzed whey as well. Pretty basic for most protein powders out there. I do like how they label the amount of each one, with 14.53g being from Isolate, 13.16g from Concentrate, and 2.98g coming from Hydro. With the first source being Isolate, it’s good to know that they didn’t just sprinkle from Isolate in there just to market it as an Isolate. Each scoop with give you the following macros(from the blueberry toaster flavor) 140cal 2f 5c(3sugar) 25p While not as high as Dymatize Elite Xt, it is still a bit higher in carbs than many other protein powders. Not saying this is a bad thing, as you would have some serious mental problems if 5 carbs in your protein powder would throw you off for the day. Still, it may not be the ideal protein for people who are cutting, with products like Iso-100 being out there for instance.
—-Taste/Mixability/Dosing—-
Blueberry Toaster Pastry- when I first tried it I was a bit disappointed. I had it in water the same day I bought it at my hotel. I remember thinking that it was a huge disappointment. I stayed away from it for a couple of weeks, but then decided to try it with almond milk. This changed my thoughts completely. When mixed with almond milk, it is absolutely delicious. It has some pretty big chunks of toaster pastry in there, and I myself was pretty surprised by how big they were when I first drank this. They are crunchy and pretty good for sure, however, they do get mushy the longer you wait, so I’d recommend drinking it quickly after you mix it all up. Cereal Milk- the best way I could describe the flavor would be that it has a similar flavor to Captain Crunch. Pretty good and def. something new and original. I almost want to say it tasted better in water than almond milk. This is the flavor that I’ve seen mixed reviews on. You either like it, or hate it. I haven’t seen too many people in-between. I happen to like it!
—-Effectiveness—-
Of course I have to mention that it is difficult to gauge the effectiveness out of a protein powder. I did not get any gastro issues from ghost whey, which is always a plus. This is a protein powder that I would probably use if I wasn’t cutting. As my carbs in a cutting phase are usually precious, depending how far along I am. I could still fit those extra calories in if I needed to. With how good it tastes, it could destroy some sugar cravings. Again though, this product can mostly be rated on its flavor and on how your stomach responds to whey. Another thing I’d like to mention, is that I’d actually look forward to this every night I drank it. I typically drank 2 scoops of this before bed, and had no problem saying no to whatever was cooked at home. Counts for something as far as effectiveness goes.
—-Value—-
Since Ghost is a GNC exclusive brand, of course the price is going to be a bit higher than most. While not outrageous, you can usually find a tub for $39.99. Of course, they often have sales for 20% off on their website, so $32 for 26 servings. This is by no means the cheapest on the market. However, it is still not horrible by any means, and I have seen some companies with basic whey sell much higher. Still, you do get a hint that you are paying for the cool tub and great flavor. I’ll pay extra for flavor… for a cool looking tub, no.
—-Side Effects—-
None
—-Conclusion—-
I’ve said this before, but Ghost is the cool kids brand. All of the cool labeling, innovative flavors, and great flavoring… Ghost has pretty much made its mark on the industry. Ghost whey is an example of this. Ghost whey is a great option if you have extra money to spend on protein powder. While I’d usually advise going with something slightly cheaper, this is still worth picking up from time to time, and I wouldn’t mind spending the extra money for the great taste. My green thumb means “yes, give it a shot”, but don’t forget that there are cheaper options out there.

Ghost Whey Review
—-Introduction—-
I have been reviewing protein powders for over a ten years now. I have also worked 7 arnold classic and the olympia in 2011. I have been around the supplement industry for quite some time and also have plenty of YT Reviews on supplements.
—-Ingredient Profile—-
Per Scoop: 1.5g Fat 4g Carbs 25g Protein What you have to love about Ghost is the open label on the whey protein. The only other added ingredients are cellulose and xanthan gum + Sucralose as the sweetener. There is nothing hidden in here. With a very basic formula the greatest inclusion is a Ghost Enzyme to help breakdown the whey for those who may have a slight lactose problem. This will settle very easy and sit well for almost all consumers. 14.53g from WPI 13.15g From WPC 2.98g from Hydro WPI
—-Taste/Mixability/Dosing—-
Blueberry Toaster Pastry – This is now my favorite blueberry protein on the market. Upon first sip you get a refreshing blueberry taste. Not something that is tart or overly sweet but a very nice and subtle blueberry flavor that hits your tastes buds just right. The toaster pastry pieces are actual chunks in the batter, which is truly unique. If you were to use this in a regular cup or blender bottle you may be eating small chunks. When blended up these give you a sweet and luscious aftertaste that enhances the blueberry flavor to give you a 50/50 perfect ratio of blueberry to toaster pastry. I have not had a bad product from Ghost yet, and to be honest I am quickly becoming a huge fan of all of their protein flavors. Easily the best Blueberry on the market, and gives you the best of both worlds with blueberry and toaster pastry. Most companies on the market miss one aspect, this nails both. I mixed this protein shake with 2 Scoops of the Whey and 12oz of cashew milk. This mixed with ease. There was no clumping left in the shake as the powder started to mix hitting the liquid. When mixed in greek yogurt (plain) I also found it to mix with ease. It mixes much thicker then I expected. The protein was very rich in flavor and still held the flavoring like the shake.
—-Effectiveness—-
This is protein powder. You use it to meet protein intake. The effectiveness is not going to change over the course of a brand or flavor. The only difference you may see is getting cut short on companies who cut corners and don’t meet label claims. Therefore you don’t get the protein you should be getting. Since Ghost is a fully transparent label, and shows you the exact breakdown of all the protein in each category you know exactly what you get. You won’t see a difference in recovery, improvement of performance, or change in your workout routine from a protein powder. This is meant to help “Supplement” Your protein intake you don’t get from whole food.
—-Value—-
$39.99 on their main webpage, but you can always find a 20% off coupon. If you have coupons to the 3 letter store you can always get the added discount if you want to shop local. For the price of the open label and flavoring it is more of a unique buy. Think of something you can use on occasion, but maybe a touch too expensive to use on a daily basis like more cost effective whey/whey blends on the market. Very good non the less!
—-Side Effects—-
No side effects it is protein powder
—-Conclusion—-
It tastes like liquid gold. I would easily pay the price for how well flavored this product is.

Will this Ghost show me the Whey?
—-Introduction—-
38 years old and I lift 4 days a week. I weigh 240 pounds, and I eat a high protein diet, so I need quite a bit of daily protein to hit my macro’s, and I like to use Protein powder to help me achieve those goals. I was pretty excited to try the line of products from Ghost, as I think their marketing campaign is strong and unique, and I do appreciate how they promote a lifestyle instead of just a supplement. Lets see how their protein holds up.
—-Ingredient Profile—-
Each flavor you get will have a slightly different ingredient profile when it comes to calorie and fat content, not by much but bear that in mind. I am talking about the Cereal Milk flavor here specifially. Each 34.5 gram scoop nets you 130 Calories, 1.5g Total Fat, 4g Carbs, 2g Total Sugars, and 25g Protein. The label is completely transparent when it comes to the protein content, which we all appreciate, and the protein is broken down in Whey Protein Isolate 90% (14.53g Delivering 12.5g Protein), Whey Protein Concentrate 80% (13.16g Delivering 10g Protein), and Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Isolate (2.98g Delivering 2.5g Protein). So there is no doubt here how much of what kind of Whey you are getting, as Ghost has nothing to hide. Some companies will market their Whey and hype up the “expensive” Whey, such as the Hydrolyzed, and not state that there is only a little bit actually in it, but not here. Kudos to Ghost. Overall, I think the profile here is okay for most people. Maybe if you were on a cut you would want to stick with a pure Isolate, but for me, the macro’s were just fine.
—-Taste/Mixability/Dosing—-
Taste: I bought the Cereal Milk flavor and absolutely loved it. I was skeptical at first, because usually fancy protein flavors dissapoint me, but this no kidding tasted like I was drinking cereal milk. It really brought my back to my childhood! So good stuff here, but I can see this a flavor being a love or hate with no real in between. Mixability: This mixed fine in my shaker bottles, no issues here. No weird residue or anything left on the bottom to clean out, so good to go here! Dosing: This is Protein, so you take as needed to SUPPLEMENT your diet, not as a replacement for real food. I typically took 1 scoop upon waking up, and 1 scoop after my workout. Sometimes I would take this is an afternoon snack, if I needed some more protein, but that was on rare occasions.
—-Effectiveness—-
So, here we all know its tough to judge a Proteins effectiveness, but I always judge my protein on how it digests, and if it filled me up or not. For the most part this digested fairly easily with no real issues here. This would fill me up a little more than other proteins I have taken in the past. I could easily go close to 2 hours after taking this before I was truly hungry again, which is great, since usually I drink a protein shake and am hungry within the hour. That being said, when I took this in the middle of the afternoon it would feel as if it was sitting in my stomach a bit, but it never caused me any distress or caused bathroom runs, so just seemed a bit more filling than I am used to.
—-Value—-
So this is where the product goes wrong, its $40 for 26 servings which comes out to $1.54 a serving. Thats a bit pricey for a Protein powder! I realize they are a newish company, and have big marketing, but I would not pay this price again going forward. Now if you can catch this on sale that would be nice, because I do believe you are getting some high quality ingredients here, but as of now its just too much. I will not knock the value down too much on price alone, because the value of effects and the quality here plays a big factor. Hopefully over time we will see the price drop as the company grows, but I doubt it.
—-Side Effects—-
None.
—-Conclusion—-
I was glad to try out Ghost Whey. Very unique flavor and a fun Protein with some decent macros for just about everyone. The price leaves a lot to be desired though, but if you want to try something different and don’t mind paying some extra then I do recommend this product. I will be watching Ghost for some holiday sales and hoping to catch one for more protein when I need it.

Ghostly Transparent Labeling, Ghastly Priced

—-Introduction—-
I’m personally a fan of Ghost products. Their marketing and stylish products as well as transparent labeling drew me to their products. Their flavoring and general effectiveness have kept me coming back for more. Ghost Whey has earned it’s place as one of my all time favorite protein powders.
—-Ingredient Profile—-
First off, I just want to commend Ghost for going above and beyond with their product labeling. Not only is the Whey ingredient label completely transparent, but Ghost also took the time to list the amounts of each type of whey in their product. A 35g scoop nets you 25g of protein which is breaks down as: 14.5g isolate, 13g concentrate, and 3g hydrolyzed whey, roughly adding up to approximately 30g of the 35g scoop. The other 5g are divided into 4g of carbs and 1.5g of fat. Not only is it nice to see exactly how the product is broken down across its ingredients, but it is also nice to know that there is very little fillers in this product.
—-Taste/Mixability/Dosing—-
Taste My first experience with Ghost Whey was with the Peanut Butter Cereal Milk flavor. It is hands down my favorite flavor protein powder. There’s no competition. The peanut butter flavor is slightly salty, reminiscent of Reese’s peanut butter. The cereal milk flavor adds a sweet and creamy undertone that helps to balance things out. I have purchased back to back to back containers of this flavor and used them to completion without tiring of the taste. It is absolutely delicious, whether mixed with milk or water. Drinking this protein after a hard workout feels more like a reward than dietary supplementation. After running through two tubs of the peanut butter cereal milk flavor without any breaks, i decided to switch it up and try the newly released Blueberry Toaster Pastry. I hated it. I tried to like this flavor. I honestly did. The blueberry taste is good, and unique. The chunks of pastry add a sweetness to balance the somewhat tart blueberry, while adding a crunch factor i never knew i wanted in a protein powder. But there was this after taste….a strong, overpowering, chemical after taste on every. single. sip. I wondered if it was just me. Maybe the flavor just didn’t agree with my pallet. But my wife has tried it and experienced the same horrible after taste. I fought hard to finish the product off, but after about halfway through the tub I could no longer stomach it and switched back to the peanut butter flavor. I have spoken with others who have tried it, and most seem to have enjoyed the flavor. I have wondered if maybe I somehow ended up with a bad batch. But at the price for this product, I’m afraid to purchase another tub just to discover it tastes the same. If not for the after taste, I would certainly have rated this flavor higher. Mixability The product mixed very well. Dissolved completely with no left over powder. Generally I always drink my protein from a shaker cup and blender ball. One thing worth noting is with the blueberry toaster pastry, the chunks of pastry would get stuck inside of the blender ball, resulting in me having to fish them out afterward. Dosage I usually take my protein 2 to 3 times a day. A single scoop in 8 ounces of milk or water mixed and tasted just fine.
—-Effectiveness—-
As others have stated, the effectiveness of a protein supplement is nearly impossible to judge. I have to commend Ghost for a solid protein supplement that did not seem to cause any gastrointestinal issues throughout my time using the product.
—-Value—-
This is always my biggest knock against Ghost products. They are always somewhat overpriced. There are plenty of protein supplements out that are just as effective and give you more servings for less money. I dont mind paying a few extra bucks for products with unique and delicious flavors, but I do feel as though the consumer is getting stuck footing the bill for Ghost’s fancy labels and flashy marketing.
—-Side Effects—-
None
—-Conclusion—-
Although it may be pricey, I would highly recommend this product if you have the extra money to spend. The flavors are unique and a much needed departure from the typical chocolate, vanilla, and cookies and cream offerings of most companies. Ghost Whey is a dietary supplement that tastes more like a treat and feels like a cheat meal.

Pricey, but it might be my favorite protein thus far.

—– Update 07/19/2018: I used this product while leaning out as my post workout shake with water. It was effective for curbing sweet cravings and aiding in my recovery without adding many carbs or fats to my macros. —–
—-Introduction—-
I have always liked Ghost’s marketing but I was never a fan of legend. I had a $15 off coupon and it was buy two get one on Ghost Whey at GNC so I decided I would give it a shot.
—-Ingredient Profile—-
I love how transparent this label is, they even break down how much protein comes from the three sources used. Each scoop contains roughly 25g of protein depending on the flavor. This protein comes from 14.5g of whey isolate, 13g of whey concentrate, and 3g of hydrolyzed whey. Each scoop also contains 1.5g of fat and 4g of carbs. A couple more carbs than most mainly isolate proteins but since it is technically a whey blend it is still a pretty clean label. Each scoop also contains Ghost’s enzyme blend which was great for me, I had absolutely no GI distress and my stomach felt fine even if I would go with two scoops.
—-Taste/Mixability/Dosing—-
Taste I bought Peanut Butter Cereal Milk, Coffee Ice Cream, and Blueberry Toaster Pastry. I love the PB cereal milk, it is probably my favorite flavor of whey on the market because it tastes just like peanut butter captain crunch. The coffee ice cream (with real freeze-dried coffee) is pretty good but has a very bitter aftertaste, this is my favorite morning protein and mixes well with almond milk. The blueberry toaster pastry is incredibly sweet but I do really like it, the pastry pieces are very good. Mixability The protein mixes very well, I never needed a shaker ball I would just shake it in the bottle. The blueberry toaster pieces will get stuck to the side of the shaker though which is very annoying. Dosage 1.5 scoops post workout mixed with 5g creatine monohydrate. Always mixes well.
—-Effectiveness—-
Works well, I never have problems digesting it and it is not very filling so I can still eat a full post workout meal.
—-Value—-
There are a lot of protein powders that are cheaper than Ghost’s and they work just as well. Without the deal I got I’m not sure I ever would try Ghost Whey. (Ghost Whey is regularly $40 for 25-28 scoops)
—-Side Effects—-
N/A
—-Conclusion—-
If you can get it on sale and you really care about the flavor of your protein, buy Ghost Whey. I think flavor is the 2nd most important factor when deciding which protein I want (after the types of protein in the blend), so I loved Ghost. But if you have to pay full price just pick up a whey isolate that is a bit cheaper.
