« on: December 30, 2009, 02:14:39 PM »

I don't know if it boosts testosterone or if it reduces estrogen, but I do think that is the ingredient in Novedex XT that gave me hives while I tried that.  I have not tried another natural testosterone booster with stinging nettle after that to know if that is for sure what it was, but about 90% sure.  If you don't get the welts and itchiness then you are doing better than me.  Some time in the future I will try another product with it, hopefully a sample to see if I have the same reaction.

Well I ask cause if you read the reviews for ActavaTe(http://www.thesupplementrating.com/listing.php?id=790 ) it list this as the effecting ingredient. However I wanted to get some more info before trying.

No nettle does not boost testosterone. It keeps your free testosterone from binding to the sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). This is important because if your testosterone is bound to the SHBG it then can't bind to other receptors and cause muscle growth.

Once free testosterone is bound, it's then flushed from your system.

So stinging nettle doesn't help you produce testosterone, but it does help keep your testosterone useful.

Thanks Adam, I thought that might get a grin. Thanks for the welcome.

Garlick thanks for the info, I will pick some up. I noticed Methyl something at GNC was basically Sting nettle with a big pricetag. Anything I might want to pair this with? Yohimbe? I realize I'm not going to get HGH type results, negatives, etc I just want to try to get whatever safe advantage I can.

Right now my sups are Jacked 3d, Gakic, Muscletech nanox9, L-caratine, and Glutamine. Trying to trim down to about 6% body fat on a 10/10/80% protein rich caloric deficit diet before massing up on the creatine/caseins when I get cut up a little better.

You can really pair it with anything, as there aren't any negative interactions with Nettle.

What you're already taking should be good, and it should be a good additive to your current stack.

Thanks man, I plan on Kre-Alkalyn 1500, Premium Whey from Body Fortress (I hear its best bang for the buck), and Trenadol (or something like it) and Jacked3D once my current stuff runs out. Sounds ok? Change something?

What Garlic said, plus it also has shown some pretty remarkable anti inflamitory properties. It has been used along with saw palmeto to reduce prostate enlargement in people with bph,and may reduce allergic symptoms in cases of allergic rhinitis. All of this depends on the purity and strength of the extract, but it is a supplement worth taking.

I started laughing pretty good when I read "First post, be gentle" as well.

Next time you buy supps, stay away from anything MuscleTech. Their products are over-priced and under-dosed.

so what does SHBG do and why does our test bind to it?
Sex hormone binding globulin. It is a protein tha along with albumin that temporarally bind and prevent testosterone(and estrogen) from exerting activity in the body. We typically have very little  testosterone circulating in a free state a any one time. About 45% is bound to shbg and 53% is bound to albumin. Certain substances such as the aas winstrol and to a lesser extent stinging nettle can lower the amount of shbg in our system and therefore increase the amount of available free test. This can greatly improve anabolism and sex drive in healthy people with normal total testosterone levels. Now that being said I don't know how effective stinging nettle is a lowering shbg, or at what dosage would be necessary but I'm going to look into it.

@Gitlo and Garlick,

Are there any scientific studies to back this up? This is very interesting about the stinging nettle.

Also to the fella that got hives, bro stay away from the product, you are allergic and got lucky. Your body may respond with anaphylaxis next time, which can be life threatening. I know, I had this happen recently and had to have a shot of epinephrine jammed into my thigh!!! Not fun coming down off of that bro!

Yes there are. The University of Maryland Medical center did one, but it involved makink a tea out of the leaves and roots. I'm trying to do some research on standardized extracts and dosing. I haven't had time these last few days due to holidays and the fact that there are football games on constantly, but I'm going to start looking into it soon. I'd love to hear if Garlick has any info. I do also know that it has been approved for BPH treatment in Germany,so there must be something to it.
