Is L-Carnitine really as good as it sounds?
« on: January 25, 2012, 06:21:43 AM »
I've been hearing a lot of good things about this. Basicallt from what i am hearing is that it converts fat into energ and when you work out it helps you lose unwanted weight. This sounds too good to be true, has anyone tried this or is using it now? And what is the effective dosage?

I personally had a good experience with carnitine. That being said everybody responds differently to everything. Many weight loss products have some supplemental form of carnitine in them. You can also find it by itself almost everywhere for pretty cheap. I used it for an energy/thermogenic boost with my preworkout about 7 months ago. If you decide to take it I highly reccomend stacking it with green tea and maybe some yohimbe hcl. A good starting dosage for carnitine would be 500mg before breakfast and 500mg before working out. Carnitine will do next to nothing if you don't put in the hard work into your diet and training though.

I am pretty fond of it. I take a vitamin which has it included (Anavite by Gaspari) though you have to take more then reccomended in most cases. Like at GNC we only suggest like 500mg - 1 gram, when in reality you want around 3 grams. I've also heard great results when taken with CLA(6 grams). I tried, but not long enough to really make a decision.

I think KevO is a regular user of the  L-carnitine L-tartrate product AI put out. I believe he logged it as well and likely did a review on this site (I havent checked).

Link to the AI site for this product.

I have a tub and used it for about 2 weeks , but backed off. Will go back to using it after this bulk I am on.

Acetyl L-Carnitine = better.
L-Carnitine is converted to Acetyl L-Carnitine in your body.
Acetyl L-Carnitine is more bioavailable.

allstarhealth.com/f/primaforce-alcar_acetyl_l-carnitine.htm

@ 1.5 grams a day, you get 166.6 services @ a cost of 9.0 cents per day.
Primaforce is a pretty solid company too.

I love L-Carnitine. I trust the branded version from Lonza that is popping up in a lot more finished products...you need at least 1g/svg.
I feel like i recover better from heavy lifts and my lifting+cardio sessions go so much better from the endurance benefit

use acetyl L-carnitine.  It does quite a bit, i think it should be a staple for most guys but its not.  LCLT is also very good, tons of benefits.  I found using it longer term 2-4 months is best.

Acetyl L-Carnitine did nothing for me. At times it gave me headaches.
Better results from Green Tea.
